Evening all: Good turnout at the march today, although here in California (and especially Santa Barbara) protesters are mostly preaching to the choir. We heard short but good speeches from some young people and teachers from local schools and colleges. It's great to see young people so energized. Those kids from the Florida high school have really started something. Lots of calls for voting preregistration as many of them will vote for the first time in 2020.
Lindybird: Hope the baby pigeons survive this year.
Clare: Some beautiful markings on that bird. Congrats on finally spotting it.
Very springlike here today; must get into the garden tomorrow: The weeds are feeling entirely too self-confident and I have some salvia to plant while the soil is still nice and damp.
Hope things are better with Forestboar..... Also that OG has a good ride back from the festivities.
Take care everyone.
Just had to remark ...
OG - delighted to hear on the news this morning that the numbers of goldfinches are rising at a really good rate.
... and now back to the grind ...
Heather - looks as if you are planning a lovely family celebration of Easter.
Clare - congrats to Helen - and her parents of course!
Diane - loved snow-mow Hoosier video! I hope the roof man can start on Friday - wonder where all the rain is coming from after all the recent snow - should be dry up above by now!
Annette - how wonderful to be enjoying all those colourful birds around your garden. RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch results are out today. Goldfinches doing really well!
Linda - a bathroom each for your next spring holiday - yay, sounds good! I wondered whether AC's visit would clash with your re-arranged cruise - and with Sis-in Law away too, maybe there won't be enough free meals for her to descend upon your town at all!
I assume the happy couple are on honeymoon somewhere, so it was doubly good of them to forward the photographer's slide show - seems that is the way proofs are provided these days!
Had to get up early today for OH to help me dress before he set off at seven o'clock to Newcastle. He's taken the car, scooter and hoist and he'll stand over hoist man and his minions while they put right the installation to facilitate hoisting the scooter in and out and to restore the scooter seat height to my comfortable position! J has his usual Wednesday off work, so is theoretically at home with me - just popped out to deliver a piece of paper to work, will go out again to get some lunch for the two of us, and is going for a "twilight training" after school! We don't know what time OH will return - he was having nightmares about it last night! I am sure we shall survive if he has to get one of the family to fetch him down to Darlington for the night!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
OG - Hope all goes well with EE today, getting the car and hoist sorted out. If he does, it will be a job well done!
Sis in law is expected today,as its my OHs birthday tomorrow and she is off to somewhere Thursday. She has had a painful shoulder and resorted to the often used now injections right in the shoulder, which was painful at the time and shortly afterwards, but she is hoping will help. She has settled well into her new house now, and had new fences put in a couple of weeks ago. However, there is an upward slope at the bottom of the garden and its difficult to make it "Bonnie proof" so we're not sure if she can help us in future. :-(
I heard the reports about the BirdWatch - nice to know there are more Goldies! We have been enjoying them on our feeders, even though we only get one or two at a time.
Right, I've got a few minutes, so time to put on some more Holiday pics:
Within 2 days of arriving there, we went for our usual trip across to Corralejo which is a ferry port at the top of the island. This is one of the beaches there.
There are now seats along the promenade so that you can sit and watch the comings and goings of the boats, small yachts and ferries. This is the ferry returning from nearby Lanzarote.
The island in the background is Los Lobos, and uninhabited island which is a little like a large tadpole, with a mountain at one end. We took a boat trip there once and enjoyed it, but its not recommended on a hot day as there are absolutely no trees nor buildings on the island, and hence no shade at all!
Another tiny beach in the town: not populated in this picture because we went very early. The guy makes a dragon out of the sand and puts in two small oil burners, so that the dragon has eyes on fire!
People sit in the cafes you can see on the front, eating h u g e plates of English Breakfast, chips and egg & bacon etc.
We walked around the buildings you can see in the previous pic, and came to one of our favourite bits, the Marina.
Here we were delighted to see that they have covered a rather ugly grey building, which is the Fish Market, in many colourful murals.
Close ups of them:
I loved the turtle (I like turtles, anyway!)
The seahorse on the side --- I deliberately didn't turn him round as this site often puts them on sideways, and now, shoot, it has remained sideways! Drat!
They're sideways, too!
At the far end, a mermaid!
On the end, a diver and more fishes and octopii (?)
View from the far side.
There are now more ornamental artworks dotted around, including more of the handpainted fishes I have shown in previous years:
-- -- Each done by an individual artist - I love 'em!
Great 'murials', Lindy! Can't remember ever seeing a sea horse at that angle before.
It is always a puzzle to me - why do people, particularly Brits, go abroad where they have lovely 'local' food, and demand English fry-ups?!?!?!? They are missing so much. Hey ho ...
LOL, Pat -- we always call them "murials" too!
If we had arrived later that morning, it would have been very busy indeed. Most people seem to stay up late, then get up late in the morning and then have Brunch instead of breakfast, so the cafes do a roaring trade satisfying the British appetite for a fry up! (not something I fancy)
Loved the "murials" (are there families who don't call them that?) and fishes! Street art has come along in great strides recently! J had his breakfast in town, but we have done a couple of routine tasks this morning - haven't heard from OH yet - he said should he phone with progress reports and I said I only want to know when the job is finished!
None of the wedding photos showed our daughters together, but Dau#2 did actually appear in some which included her ex (on opposite sides, always someone between them), as parents of the groom. She had threatened to leave straight after the service. A nice touch was that the photographer also included the new partners too, in separate pictures.
