Evening all: Good turnout at the march today, although here in California (and especially Santa Barbara) protesters are mostly preaching to the choir. We heard short but good speeches from some young people and teachers from local schools and colleges. It's great to see young people so energized. Those kids from the Florida high school have really started something. Lots of calls for voting preregistration as many of them will vote for the first time in 2020.
Lindybird: Hope the baby pigeons survive this year.
Clare: Some beautiful markings on that bird. Congrats on finally spotting it.
Very springlike here today; must get into the garden tomorrow: The weeds are feeling entirely too self-confident and I have some salvia to plant while the soil is still nice and damp.
Hope things are better with Forestboar..... Also that OG has a good ride back from the festivities.
Take care everyone.
Good news, in the main, ForestBoar. Hope she continues to improve, even though that may be slow.
OG - Oh, heck! Hope your blood pressure has not gone up too much...... Glad you're both home in one piece and the car was good.
Thanks, ANNETTE!
I was thinking about you last night, heard Martin Luther King's granddaughter speaking -
OG - Good that the car was wonderful but wondering about the rest.... sorry that things obviously didn't go quite to plan.
LINDY - haven't posted here very much but just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your holiday updates and pics.
CLARE - Congrats to you three!
Well, I thought that the dining room wasn't too dusty since it is used only rarely. That is all I have to say about that.... Actually, not quite all. I can see that the ceiling and coving needs painting, even if I skip having the wallpaper redone. There is always something.
Beautiful Clare thank you, Makes you realise how so often they are mistaken for OSPREY.
Congrats also on your Teenager coming of age ( not 21 as in our day CHOL:):) and as Lindy says, we never stop worrying, in fact more of concern, now onwards, than when they were more or less under our control. But worth it,ENJOY!!
Morning all: Spent last evening watching online replays of the marches; some very eloquent young people. And such a relief to know there's a dedicated generation lurking at the voting booths (wonder what Vladimir will do about them...)
OG: Oh my; well, it's all over now. At least the car behaved.
Forestboar: Dang! Do hope SD recovers soon and stays well...
Heather: If my house is anything to go by, you'll see even more dust what with the sun now at more revealing angles. :-( I found a sort if latticework cobweb on the blinds in my room yesterday and the paintwork throughout the house is looking dull...
Clare: Hmmm - as others have said, there's no cut-off date for parenting. Now they're capable of getting into grown-up trouble. :-)
Must work in the garden today. Back later....
We had an update from younger SD. This is becoming a bumpy ride for her sister. Her white cell count is only SLIGHTLY up, which is at least progress. She also had the results from her scan which the hospital managed to do for her. They have detected some small blood clots in her lungs so she is now on blood thinning medication as well as the IV. Afraid she is likely to be in hospital for a while.
It has at least turned into a nice afternoon here and we should be back on normal Monday shopping tomorrow in the sunshine.
So, what happened? We set off Friday afternoon as planned to attend Grandson’s wedding on Saturday. The journey was quite comfortable considering we were on the M73 and M80 at rush-hour time. We stopped for a meal, which was a bit slow in service, and the remainder of the journey was in the dark, however we knew the way until the very last part where we had a short nightmare drive through roadworks where the area has been left really bad through roadworks to replace old roads cut off by new bridge access. We found our way through these and into the hotel access, which was totally unsuitable – parking for hotel reception was on a steep multidirectional slope. Although I asked him not to, OH insisted on turning to the edge above a vertical drop with no fencing – should have known better with J and me in the car! Not sure how I got out – and I refused to get in the wheelchair on those slopes. J was in a serious panic attack, but I walked him up to the door and got him inside while OH secured the car and followed with the wheelchair. We booked in and secured J a room on the opposite side from his reserved room so he didn’t have to look out at the bridge, and we all went to our allegedly “accessible room”, but it wasn’t! There were only support bars on one side of the loo – no good for me – and it was certainly not of the standard we could use. After some discussion, J firmly said he would not cross the bridge for the church part of the wedding, and we decided we could not stay at the hotel, where the reception was to be. When OH went to the desk to tell them, they cancelled our whole booking. The bridegroom was staying there, and he appeared, so we chatted a while with him before leaving, and they found us a safer route to leave the building, but still through the roadworks. We eventually found somewhere to spend the rest of the night in Stirling, had late breakfast and drove home on Saturday, with lunch at the Old Toll Bar. We assume there were no major upsets at the wedding – don’t know if the difficult members of the family spoke to each other – nobody has contacted us at all.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Blimey, OG. I don't have words!
Have a suitable capture instead:
And a nicer one:
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
OG- I did suspect that there may have been problems with the accommodation, remember something similar happening to you on a previous occasion. You really would think that hotels would do proper consultation before advertising disabled access. I'm so sorry that it all went wrong and hadn't realised that J had such severe anxiety/phobic issues. How sad that you couldn't see your grandson married. Sending love from here-
Oh, dear. What a shambles OG, and what a shame.
This is not the first time you've had access problems within a hotel, I remember.
At least Grandson was the one member of the family who we did see Friday evening - but we don't know whether he got a chance to speak to either of our daughters! His mother was expected at the church but not the reception; his Auntie must have been there, because I read that SiL dropped his glasses and they got run over by the wedding car! Still no photos yet.
