Well folks, its been an exciting day despite the weather. The middle chick increased its wing exercising and almost went this afternoon but no, it was this evening at about 19.37pm that it fledged. Alison posted a link on the main blog. In case anyone missed it , it is: www.youtube.com-watch Its only short but it shows clearly it taking off.
At present we don't know where it is. The eldest and youngest are on the nest with we hope middle one on a tree sheltering from the wind. Only the morning will tell and hopefully when there is a fish delivery it will come back onto the nest
The eldest has had a few forays out into the big wide world also but #3 is still at home but has been practising. What will tomorow bring??

I agree Heron. They will spend a lot of time in the next few weeks watching EJ and Odin's flying technique. Titch is still enjoying wingercising and giving a little screech when its done.

OK I admit defeat....what on earth does GEM stand for please? I thought I could work it out for myself - but I am afraid I get nought out of ten.
dibnlib - GEM was a phrase coined by Lindybird a while ago - Giant Eating Machines!

#1 (on the right) is definitely Odin's #1 son:

GEM stands for Giant Eating Machine. This is a salute to the huge appitite of the young Ospreys and their highly impressive growth rate since hatching.
Warning! This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar. Approach with extreme edginess.
?GEM? = what is this please?
Sue
ed - DUH! I saw this on p18, then someone else asks and the answer was already there!!
Thanks all in here
Hi Suel. GEM stands for Giant Eating Machine. I hope my last post was good enough at explaining the reasons for the term. Although I think when #3 has definately fledged we'll have to come up with a new term in praise of all three youngsters having a new found abilty to fly. :-)Paul
Welcome as well Evva:)) We try!
Emma P, thanks, sorry I just disappeared but had a great time . too short.
Sorry if this has been answered but is the center switching camera views any time, to the one that will follow them flying?
Gary. they change cameras usually after all the birds have fledged and the camera can follow them around, whilst they are nearby.
Gary - yes holidays are usually too short aren't they? As far as I'm aware, we have not had confirmation about the switch of cameras although I know the question has been asked either on the Daily Upate or on the main blog, can't remember which. I think the switchover will take place when most of the activity is taking place away from the nest.
