WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY MARCH 4 2018

Diane: Will REALLY miss you on here.  Like Heather, I enjoy your updates on RTH and other critters.

Spoke to niece in Newport Pagnell today via Facetime; saw pix of her cats snuggled by the fire and snow piled up in the garden.

Have been shopping for a new laptop and a replacement iPhone (an older model) so I can pass on mine to one or other family member with an even more ancient and failing model.  My laptop screen keeps dimming plus odd video symptoms pop up and it turned itself off the other day.  Costco has a really good deal on one and I do like what they call their "concierge" service that adds another year to the manufacturer's warranty.  They were a great help in resolving a problem with a new TV we bought some years back when the manufacturer and local service person flaked out - they arranged to have someone drive up from Los Angeles to sort it out (we ended up with a replacement), but Costco handled the whole thing.

Have a good Sunday everyone.

  • OG - googled the Queensferry Crossing. Very impressive!

  • I liked it too, Dibnlib.  Lots of fun.

OG - Bonnie is going to stay with Other Sis-in-law, as the one I usually mention has problems with making the garden dog proof in her new property.

We've had strong words with our Travel Agent, as there've been problems with our booking for next autumn, in particular the flights. Too complicated to go into here, but we hope it's now been resolved. Needless to say, we won't be using those Agents ever again. I said today that after all the endless hassle we've had over the whole thing, I wish I'd never said I'd like to go on holiday! My OH is really stressed over it and we've spent ages on the thing, including strings of phone calls and several meetings. And at the end of it all, we STILL have to think of some way to spend my actual birthday, which I wish I could cancel altogether!

    Moan over.

Annette - I did manage to catch some glimpses of the Oscars on the TV News, but otherwise it's just still pictures on the Net. Not seen Jane Fonda yet! Did see that some of the ladies wore a different frock for the after party, from the one they wore at the Oscars Ceremony.  I bought sandals but didn't like them on, and have sent for a different pair which will not now arrive until we are gone, but will be nice for summer if we get any sunshine this year! Still packing shoes for this trip... trying to keep it minimal!

  • Hi all.   Glad to hear that those of you who have been snowed in, thaw is setting in and you have managed to clear pathways with help so that you can get about.  Our thaw was pretty rapid here. Its been a balmy day compared to how cold it got but the rain came in late afternoon.

Went to the hospital for assessment.  Infection seems to be under control and have to take the remaining tablets till Friday and then back in in the afternoon for a re-assessment. Still in a bit of pain with the raw skin but coping without painkillers.

Nice to see that Gary Oldman got best actor and also his make-up artist received an Oscar for his work.

Dau had purchased Dunkirk so we watched it Saturday night - a bit disjointed but realised what the film was getting at - not as good as "Darkest Hour" though.

  • OG:  Friday evening isn't a good time to get anywhere, anywhere in the world!  I also Googled the Queensferry Crossing.  If that were in earthquake country, I'd be speeding over that.

Lindybird: Sorry the day went down the tube.  Oh pooey! Just read your post about problems with your travel agent.  Pull your hair out time!  Aaack.  We should start a pool on the thread about how many pairs of shoes you'll take to the Canaries.  :-)  I'm sure you won't see this, but have a lovely trip.

Heather:  So. A new dryer ordered yet?

Lynette: Good that infection is responding to different meds.  Was also glad that Darkest Hour makeup artist won an award. I couldn't STAND Dunkirk! Completely disjointed and the film editor won an Oscar. What were they thinking!!

    Have a good Tuesday everyone.

  • Linda – Have a great time, relax & enjoy.

Alicat – How nice to “see” you again.

    .

Lynette - Good to see you are improving.

Hello everyone. I can't keep up!!!

    .

I took myself to city yesterday for a short research session in library (seeking history of pesky churches that I photo-ed) and some shopping. I returned to purchase a moisturizer. I had tried a sample & it worked! Now just one problem, product is so security-conscious I can’t get anything out of tube. I shall try Dau tomorrow, otherwise it is a trip back to chemist for help.

  • AQ: I have a small sample bottle of shampoo that I'm sure even the most dedicated terrorist couldn't blast his way into.  We spend ages in a store trying to figure out which product to buy; then either can't get the lid off of it or incur severe bodily injuries in the process.  Aaargh!

  • Good Morning (I've not gone, yet, Annette!)

Lynette - Sorry you're having such pain with your leg: at least you got the assessment in the end. Hope it clears up soon.

AQ - Gather it must be cooler there now. Don't even get me started on packaging! I have strong scissors in every room for undoing the wrapping on most of the things you buy these days, and as for getting the lids off things......

Shoe count to follow, later, when it's all in the cases...

  • Today's pic:

"Did you say it's fish for dinner?"

  • The Queensferry Crossing is very impressive indeed, esp as it is one of 3 in close proximity across the Firth of Forth.  The 1964 road bridge looks like a poor cousin between the rail bridge and the new road bridge, but the 3 together are a wonderful sight.

  • Good morning, ALL.

LINDA - travel agent does seem to be quite unhelpful - hope all is finally settled for autumn trip.  Good that you have the Sisters-in-Law lined up to take Bonnie when needed!

LYNETTE - glad you finally got a hospital assessment on your leg, and that current meds are working.  I suppose complete healing will take a while - and prevent swimming; don't let it get infected with any other bugs.

DIBNLIB - looking forward to seeing the three bridges - apparently impressive views from the hotel where we are staying two nights (and where reception is).  Just not looking forward to driving over the new one - have flatly refused to use old one since the cables started snapping internally!  We usually use the old Kincardine Bridge or the Clackmannan Bridge to travel north!

OH has taken old car for MoT and service, required by Motability ready for the handover.  I don't like calling it the "old car" as we have had it five years and been very fond of it.  No sign of snow here now - was raining overnight, but seems dry now.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
