The purpose of this thread is to record the day-to-day activity at the Manton Bay nest thus freeing up the Rutland Osprey Project 2018 thread for general news on all the other birds, nests and projects.
Details about the Manton Bay nest, including a table of the breeding data, can be found here.
Last year we were thrilled to see both Maya and Blue 33(11) return within hours of each other on the 22 March and I am sure I speak for us all in wishing them both a safe journey home and for another successful season at Manton Bay.
Still on the nest. Maybe I am being a bit picky but, given all the environmental news about the impact of plastic, are the plastic strips holding the top of the nest togerher the best thing they could have used? Ian
They have been there for a long time Ian and I guess it would require a major nest restoration to remove them. The alternative is wire which also has its critics. In their current use I don't see any threat to the environment.
Birdies LG DU update.
Good morning, beautiful Maya:
I hope you have some suitable company soon!

Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
She has flown, and not to the cam post.
Thanks Mike, I suppose we are all sitting watching on our computers which are certaintly not environmentally friendly once we dispose of them :) Ian
She's back. Must have been a poo break!
Good morning all, nice try by the Egyptian Goose. All my nest boxes and the video cameras are held on by plastic cable ties but they are the ones you can release and reuse. I’ve tried all sorts of alternatives but keep coming back to these. A conundrum that’s for sure.
Morning all. At last, I've seen Maya live on that platform.
I think this was a 40-minute visit earlier, she brought a stick and forgot the best place for it at first, but soon remembered ;)

She thought the stick went in the nestcup (which is nice and deep already!)
Off she flew:

She's back again.
