The purpose of this thread is to record the day-to-day activity at the Manton Bay nest thus freeing up the Rutland Osprey Project 2018 thread for general news on all the other birds, nests and projects.
Details about the Manton Bay nest, including a table of the breeding data, can be found here.
Last year we were thrilled to see both Maya and Blue 33(11) return within hours of each other on the 22 March and I am sure I speak for us all in wishing them both a safe journey home and for another successful season at Manton Bay.
I just hope she hasn't arrived too early. I keep hearing rumours of more wintry weather incoming and I just hope we don't get another episode like the end of February!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

Clare, as we saw in 2017 with EJ's snow donut, they can cope with it. Ian

I don't want to think about the implications of her ability to find fish if we get the enormous amount of snow that we did for a longer time. She's back on the nest. She's back on the nest.
Here she is again:
Flybys - I can't recognise them:
IMAGICAT
I don’t think the Rutland birds will have any problems with fishing, it’s a huge area of water and they have the River Gwash Trout Fishery on their doorstep, fingers crossed though.
Wrong place:
Still the wrong place - and oops!
That's more like it:

Maya is back, pottering.
Not much of a potter, she's stood standing watching now.
I'm off for a rest, hoping to dream up a system for the unfolding season, having been taken by surprise :)
