WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY FEBRUARY 18, 2018

Thought I'd give Diane a break this week. Sorry, no pretty pic, but here's a link - posted by Gardenbirder late Saturday - to a funny BBC page re the Wales earthquake:   http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-43100524  :-))

  • Good Morning, All.  Dry here and dampish looking.

ForestBoar and Diane - No, you're not alone, I keep forgetting things with alarming regularity. My Friend and I both struggle particularly with names of people and places, and my OH and I struggle with remembering small things which we intended to do "in a minute" but then get distracted. I've always had to make lists of Important Things To Do, or I get anxious in case I forget. So now I need to make more lists! LOL!

  • Today's pic:

A Monarch to cheer us up!

  • Lindy, where did you put that list of Important Things to Do?

  • I have one list which contains the "To Do" info - or tells me where other lists are - it's called a Diary!  OH doesn't use lists - his equivalent is my brain!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

LOL!!  - it has to live next to the microwave, with the 3 shopping lists!  (One for local shop, one for Sainsbugs which is not local, one for Other Things!) -- with a pen always to hand, as I forget to write things down if I don't do it right away ;-)

  • I've followed on from OH, everything I have to do is written in a desk diary - even which colour refuse bins are to be collected on Mondays! Diary is always open and right beside my desk top computer. Without it, I would be lost. The things that I am most likely to forget are the exact dates that one or other of my children are coming here, whether for a meal or whatever. However, there is usually a scrap of paper on the kitchen worktop to remind me of the things that are urgently needed and that somehow get forgotten when I'm shopping (even with a list!)

LINDY - long live the turkey!

OG - I have remembered (!) that you and daughter are having a joint celebration, her wedding and your golden wedding. So it must be so tempting to say 'Forget the fol de rols' (? how on earth is that spelt?) and let us concentrate on the real meaning of today'. I had a fancy wedding planned when very young - five bridesmaids etc etc. The wedding did not take place and subsequently my weddings (! again) were very simple with just our nearest and dearest there. I think that I learned something from the first experience.

Well, Sam has emerged from the shower so I'd better go there. Nine of us for dinner this evening. Keeping it simple - spaghetti bolognese, garlic bread and a salad. Will have to venture in to cupboard under stairs and find my largest saucepans....stockpots.

  • Heather - will your Son help lift the big pans full of spag bol?  Does Sam like to "help" in the kitchen?  Have a lovely time with the gathering this evening!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • I'm sure that someone will lift the big pans, OG. Sam does like to help, I just have to curb his enthusiasm a bit! Last night, in the wee small hours, I was wondering if my biggest colander - which is very large - would do for the spaghetti. Then the brain worked and I realised that I could drain it in two or three lots.... If I had brains I would be dangerous.

  • Good idea to do spagh bol when there are a lot to cater for, Heather. I usually do a big stew or something.

I've mopped the kitchen floor and my OH has gone off to the allotment to look at his splitting potatoes.  Bonnie is bereft - she always wants to be with him. I came onto the desk top to look at my emails, but I can't resist looking on here first....

I found a bag of pearl barley the other day when tidying up, and noticed that it was well out of its sell by date.  I've cooked it all this morning, in a big pan, and put some of it out for the birds:  the magpies are inspecting it now.  I hope its alright, but I assume that any kind of grain is OK for birds.
