HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We begin the year with a Full Moon on the night between Monday and Tuesday. This Full Moon is also a so-called Supermoon, because it will occur just hours after the moon reaches perigee (its closest point to Earth in its monthly orbit).

I cherish you all, and I wish you a joyful, peaceful, healthy, and fulfilling 2018! Thank you for being my friends.

  • ForestBoar -- Thank you for your good wishes. Sorry to hear about the freezer, what a nuisance.

  • Dau phoned as they were leaving IKEA to say they were calling in. Eek, that’s only a 5 min drive! Trio finished decorating our tree, then descended on toy box and a trillion puzzles. Not to mention the same old familiar books I have to read. At least Miss6 reads to us now. After an hour when “sharing” became more difficult, they were loaded in car & taken home, first making sure favourite doggies & cattie went too.

  • AQ: Sounds like an exciting visit. Glad you finally got the tree finished; just in time to take it down, too!  We are about 1.30 mins from midnight. Not sure I'll still be up.

Forestboar: Hope you can survive without a refrigerator until Thursday - but silly me, we didn't have a refrigerator when I was growing up in the UK. We kept food in the larder or down in the cellar, but then my Mom also shopped almost every day. Have you shipped out the food to a neighbor or one of the daughters?

Lindybird: Don't remember the last time I actually went out to celebrate New Years - eons ago I think. We are going to a brunch tomorrow - much easier to cope with at this point.

  • Good Morning.  Just surfacing, after having a much needed lay in. It looks sort of damp out of the window but it's quite calm here.

Laughed about your being invaded, AQ.

  • Today's pic:

A sunrise taken from our bedroom window, way back in 2014.

  • Happy New Year all - I hope it is a peaceful and kinder one for all of us.

I also didn't make it to hear the bells - I went to bed with the radio on and slept right through!

  • Sending best wishes to all for 2018. Thank you for the support, encouragement and affection that I received during the past year. It meant a lot to me. In my family, we always toast 'absent friends' and that is what I am saying now - remembering those of our group no longer with us, whether because of illness, death or other circumstances.

  • I second your sentiment Heather x

  • Seconded and thirded, Heather!!

This time of year, and the events we associate with them, are always a time to reflect and remember, especially those we know who are far away, or those who sadly, we have lost. I often give a silent nod to those whilst going about my day, even when in company.

  • On a lighter note, we had a good evening yesterday.

We had fizz on arrival, and crispy nibbles, but I was careful not to eat much, knowing what was to come!! We sat down to our first course of fish, being smoked salmon, mackerel and tuna, with several accompanying sauces including sour cream, and avocado and pink grapefruit.

Then we had a small bowl of watercress soup.  The main course, which we had after an interval, was beef bourginon, with luscious mushrooms in it, accompanying greens and layered potatoes.

The dessert, which we had after another interval, was a lemon jelly made with sparkling wine, and layered with lemon syllabub. Yummy. Later, we gave in and managed a few dry biscuits with some cheese and grapes.

When we retired to the sitting room to await the Midnight hour with coffees, we were offered chocolates but really no one had room for any! A glass of champagne at 12.00 o'clock was the finale to a grand evening (My OH drank very little, and drove us home)
