HAPPY NEW YEAR!
We begin the year with a Full Moon on the night between Monday and Tuesday. This Full Moon is also a so-called Supermoon, because it will occur just hours after the moon reaches perigee (its closest point to Earth in its monthly orbit).
I cherish you all, and I wish you a joyful, peaceful, healthy, and fulfilling 2018! Thank you for being my friends.
Hello Everyone,
Thank you Diane, as usual for starting the week (and year).
I like your festive tree, Lindy.
Son and family are winging their way back over the Atlantic. It is always sad to see them leave, but it will be good to get back to what passes as normal in this house.
There has been a lot of coming and going with various family members over the last ten days. All good, but it seems hard work now we are not so young!
Third lot of washing in machine. I was going to do a wash tomorrow, but my sister said it was bad luck to wash on New Years Day. She is not particularly superstitious, and neither am I, but now I have been told about it, I will respect that.
I wish everyone on here a happy and healthy 2018, and thank you all for being kindred spirits.
Thank you, Rosy. And give yourself the day off, tomorrow!!

Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
I agree, Clare. I am just feeling rather weary and silly!
We had the family over Christmas and we were weary when they left: it's partly the changes in routine and also partially my own fault for trying to make sure everything goes well.
Still no sign of the promised gales, here, so maybe we will escape them. Went out for a quick outing around the villages in the car this morning, and went to a farm shop where we bought some more bird seed as we were running out - I feel so sorry for them when it's freezing weather so put out extra. On the way, we saw some bright colour under a hedge --- unbelievably, a row of daffodils!!!!! The first time in my life I've seen any this early.
Haven't heard of crystal, etc., ornaments causing fires at all - and we have a lot more sunshine here (and crystals I suspect).
AQ: Glad wedding went well for all. Sydney's New Year Party is always spectacular and is the first of the "New Year Around the World" coverage that starts so early here.....I think poor Hawaii gets left out...
Rosy: Bad luck to do a wash on NY's Day? I shall take that as a sign to also avoid ironing, dusting, weeding etc., (wonder if I could also avoid cooking?) :-) I dread saying goodbye to family when I'm leaving the UK to come back here or when they're heading back home after a visit. We've laughed about it and seems like the preferred cure is to clean up any trace of the beloved family member's visit so things look "normal" quickly. The "arrived safe" phone call helps too.

Good evening everyone, I hope you all have a good and happy New Year.
I was starting some batch cooking yesterday morning. When I got the frozen diced onions from our freezer I noticed that one thing they were not was frozen. Opened the door and the power light was off. I replaced the fuse and still not working. All I can say is that the replacement is somewhat more expensive than all the Christmas presents! Its due Thursday. Christmas has been costlier than expected!
We seem to have kept a large number of our starlings this year, certainly more than last.
May I wish everyone a very happy and healthy 2018. Thank you for all the posts that brighten my days, and the warmth and support I have found on this Forum. May it continue for ever ...
... a part-time lurker, a part-time poster but a full-time reader!
Thank you, Pat.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to ALL - We just got home after our evening out at Friends. No sign of the gales at all, but it is rather damp. We had a good meal, which I'll describe tomorrow, and a pleasant evening, but we both said on the way home we don't think we will repeat next year, as we find it hard to stay up so late. Several of us at the table were stifling yawns, and the glass of champagne offered at five to midnight was nice but was the last straw for me, I just couldn't stay awake to make conversation.
