Thank you Diane. I remember reading now, that the plant is poisonous, but not for birds.
I think there are several berries that are food for birds, but can be lethal for humans. I do not think I would wish to try pokeweed, but , as you say it was very useful in the past. The old folks knew a thing or two, which most of us do not need to know now, fortunately.
Heather, your home often seems to be a haven for various family members with heating/hot water problems amongst other things.
I hope Isla responds to treatment. These things do seem to happen at weekends.
