Welcome to the new week. Hope all the UK types remembered to put their clocks back. We'll do it in another couple of weeks.
I am persuading myself that they stopped off somewhere for a meal on their way back! And don't actually know how far they will have had to go for a vet!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
I see a morning-long debate over Bonnie's well being. Maybe the site warden could consider putting signs up warning dog owners of the dangers of letting pets scarf up bits and bobs...
Sorry -- been busy and only just realised that I hadn't come back on. Bonnie is alright, and looks OK now.
We saw a very nice Vet, and explained everything: she didn't know about the stuff which is now apparently washing up on the beaches locally all around here. We took a sample of the white stuff with us, it looks just like lard but has a ghastly smell, rather like household cleaner or something. She examined Bonnie, and felt her all over, then said that as she didn't know the adverse effects, she needed to ring a poisons service. We gave permission, as they charge for this.
They said that it could affect her organs, in particular the pancreas. But as she had got rid of what she'd eaten, and is showing no signs of distress, we seem to lucky. My OH had her on a long lead when she started eating it, and he pulled her away when he noticed, so it's just as well.
The bill was hefty, and included fifty pounds just for the phone call to the poisons advice place, plus ten pounds VAT on just that part! See that lots of you are kindly wondering what's happened -- it took half a hour to drive to the Vet, and then a wait at the surgery. Afterwards we went food shopping and drove half an hour back. I've just had two different people come round to ask how she is, as I've been writing!
Ah! good news came as I was posting! Just keep an eye on her, in case she didn't get rid of it all, but it seems she is a lucky girl this time - but do shorten the lead near anything she might ingest - it is a Spaniel trait, and she seems particularly prone to finding what she shouldn't! Hope you can enjoy the rest of the weekend!
Going out this evening - pre-show supper and concert by Jacqui Dankworth and Charlie Wood.
OH LINDY, I'm so glad that she seems to be OK.
Just added to the above post! We know that she will eat almost anything she can find, and it's a wonder that this is our first vets visit on this score!
The Site Warden has erected a notice near the beach, warning that there are things on the beach which may be toxic to dogs. There are very few of us seasonal visitors here now, but the nearby village people bring their dogs down.
Lindy: I'm sorry about Bonnie's morning. I hope she'll be right as rain now and will suffer no ill effects. Dogs are pretty resilient. Best to both of you.
Thank you, Diane, and everyone else for their concern. On the drive to the Vets I was able to imagine my OHs grief if the worst had happened, he adores her.
OG - Enjoy your concert, it sounds fab.
