  • Continental breakfast (choice of juice, fruit, cereal, toast) delivered to room afternoon before and do-it-yourself in morn. I left by 9, buying a salad sandwich for lunch. (Alas it was a very hot day and sandwich was rather soggy by lunchtime.) I had plenty of water with me. I drove north to Mt Bryan captured 4 ex-churches, Hallett 3 more, Whyte Yarcowie had 2 plus a model of an Anglican church. The original was 15 ft x 11 ft, had seating for 21, however there were few regular services, it closed, demolished 1964. The site was now accommodating a horse. (Sheep, neigh, horses may safely graze.)

  • Toured around quiet Terowie where our bus trip was just a few weeks ago. Photographed churches & halls, much better view than bus window, set every dog in town barking, chatted to man on bike who actually lives in one of the churches, chatted to lady in post office + store. Ate lunch under tree until time for Info to open, more chat, then return to Burra. A ruin seen north of Whyte Yarcowie.

Dinner again at motel, fell asleep watching the news and missed my programs as well. Next morning I drove to Clare (the town in the Valley) to capture 2 stray pics. Then to Brinkworth and home with a few detours for ruins and cairns. I liked this memorial to the Condowie Lutheran church which preserves the foundation stone.

Arrived home safely mid pm. The end.

  • Good Morning, All.  Saw last night that AQ had begun her pics and descriptions of her trip, but too late at night for me to stay up and read. Bonnie barked after being put to bed - she's probably missing my OH - so I went downstairs to investigate and reprimand.

A bit brighter this morning, with only scattered clouds and it's dry, which is good as I intend to walk into the town.

Will read your report at leisure later, AQ!

Hope Annette is enjoying the last of her stay, and has a safe journey home (not sure of your schedule).

  • Today's pic:

    "Do your yoga every day!"

  • No yoga for me. A swim will have to do.

  • Good Morning -

Thank you DIANE. Hope that you are nearing the end of your project :-)

ANNETTE - safe journey home. Your OH will be happy to see you again!

OG - It must have been pleasant to have a chat with an old friend over lunch. I'm assuming that yesterday, with the Moderator present, was when you and EE were received into the church family?

AQ - I have read all about your adventure. Thank you for sharing such interesting and nostalgic information. As in Canada, some of the place names tell so much about the origin of the first settlers.

LINDY - A nuisance about the suitcases but you seem to have found a solution. I have a few padlocks which fit in the way you describe. In addition, OH bought lockable luggage straps with our surname on which he used to fit through the handle so that they could never come off completely.

It has been a quiet weekend here, no visitors etc. Not a problem, I am used to my own company now and have also become quite good at making essential chores take more time to do, than previously! I get up later and go to bed earlier. Today, will go to the local ALDI store which has just been refurbished. Haven't been there for ages. Strange weather today, sun, then dull, then a rain shower. A bit windy.

  • Morning all:  After seeing the news from the US this morning, I'm again wondering why I ever left the UK. Oh well....

AQ: Will give your pix a closer look when I get home (Tuesday evening).

    Take care all

  • Yes, ANNETTE, dreadful news from Las Vegas :-(

DIBNLIB - I'm so pleased for you, that you are so happy with your Mum's care home. Her hair done, etc, all signs of a nice place. Most importantly, she seems happy too.

Lunch cooking, lemon sole. I have never tasted samphire but now have the inclination to try it!

Sorry to see that Monarch have gone bust. I've had a few good flights with them, to Tenerife.
  • HEATHER  Yes, it was so nice to leave Mum without worrying how things were.

Samphire is not for us. We tried it once at Bunchrew House Hotel, and never again. Sorry OG, I have to agree with J.

  • Sorry to hear about the tragic events in Las Vegas.

We have used Monarch Airlines often when going to The Canaries on an independently booked holiday - they've always been excellent and we had no complaints. The airline business is certainly fragile. Now we're wondering if we'll have to pay more next year for our trip in March (thankfully not booked yet).

Been busy again,  went to the town, then later took Bonnie for a walk and did some of the ironing pile whilst watching a recording of Strictly.
