HAPPY NEW WEEK!
I hope everyone has a wonderful week.
When I was young, I spent a lot of time on the Gulf coast of Florida. My then-husband had family there. I so loved watching the Gulf wildlife. Tonight, the area where I explored the wild is under a mandatory evacuation order. It's expected to be hit hard by the massive Hurricane Irma. (For perspective: Irma is bigger than France.) My thoughts are with the people and the wildlife throughout the southeast U.S.

Diane: Thank you! I've been looking at Irma on the Wundermap and it is huge. It's still a 3 and looks like the storm surge is the real danger at this point.
Have a good Sunday everyone.
Thanks for the new thread, DIANE, putting Irma in perspective, although still beyond my limited imagination! Always loved to see Manatee pictures, ever since I first heard of them - still so little known about them.
ANNETTE - fearing for Florida - much of it so low-lying. I hope you will have some time to yourself this week and be less busy!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Good Morning. Good and bad news, so far on the hurricane. Will be thinking of Florida today.
Here's today's pic:
Hello all and thank you, DIANE.
I hope everyone is OK.
Have been following world weather events and also earthquake off Mexico coast. Particularly moving, was the appeal for help by the Governor of the BVI. I didn't realise until last night that the RN always have a Fleet Auxiliary ship stationed in the Caribbean area at this time of year. Ship always loaded up with personnel and equipment that would be of help in such a situation.
Morning all: Irma and Florida all over the television this morning although must say the media seems thrilled and all the top news anchors have rushed to the scene to be part of the action.. Of course, the Mexican earthquake is taking a back seat to all this and who knows what might be happening in the rest of the world..... Typical.
Agree, ANNETTE. Have to say, though, that it is only due to listening to BBC World Service radio that I hear about some events.
We are getting news of all these events, Annette, although there was some criticism that the earthquakes in China and Mexico were being given third billing to the sports news and the hurricane. I hope the damage in Florida is not too great.
I went out to fill the bird feeders this morning, seeing a whole flock of sparrows waiting for me in the bushes, when I heard a familiar sound. Geese!! I stood still and looked up - "That's a lot of noise from just four geese," I thought. Then they were followed by about 25 geese, in beautiful "V" formation, all shouting to one another. A wonderful moment.
The sight and sound of geese flying over is a wonderful thing. We get many and never tire of the spectacle.
"Honk Honks!" I shout, as we used to say, warning the children to look upwards........
