HAPPY NEW WEEK!

I hope everyone has a wonderful week.

I've chosen a deer picture this week, because a doe white-tailed deer and her twins have been visiting my house every night at dusk to eat my weeds. :-) The little male is very feisty and bold. His daddy is the impressive old buck who often sleeps in the brush by my garage.

Everyone here is eagerly awaiting the Total Solar Eclipse. At my house, the eclipse will be 93% total. I'm not going south to the path of totality.

Best wishes to everyone!

  • Today's pic:

"Give me a kiss and let's make up!"

  • LINDY    Love it. Anything to do with Goldies and I just melt.

  • Returned to “term time” routine of early mornings and so early nights.  All woke up as planned this morning.  Kids aren’t back at school till next Monday, but J has “inset” day at the Academy this Thursday and a special training in Dumfries Friday.  OH has gone to Morrison’s in Dumfries this morning.  Dawn was bright and sunny, but wet, wet, wet morning since!  Such a contrast again – I had a late evening wander in the garden in the evening sun yesterday.

Linda – enjoyed the description of your three bird day.  Can’t be sad that the Magpie got his breakfast!  Enjoy your visit from Amber.

Annette – love it when we catch a well-informed local at small-town museums.  Personal recollections are so much more memorable than any written description boards.  Pleased you arrived safe – hope you are enjoying a good restful sleep and then can enjoy the gardening with Miss D.

Not sure what I am doing today – may make some more birthday cards having been motivated to start again last week.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Goodness, it sounds strange having you talk about "back to school" OG, as it's still the middle of the holidays here. We started wet and drizzly here, but its clearing up now and the sun is a watery thing behind the fluffy clouds. I expect you could tell that I was a little shocked to see the Magpie behavior, although I don't know why it didn't occur to me as I've seen them eating roadkill. The speed of its reaction was what was most astonishing:  it must have been sitting in a nearby tree and saw the bird crash into the window.

  • More Flower Show pictures:

These two ladies were fluttering about, and stopped to pose for me.

Not keen on this "rusty metal look" really, there's been too much of it.  And not enough flowers!

One of the entries into the "A study room in the garden" competition, by young designers. This one was my favourite:  Monty Don sat in it on the TV, and showed it off quite well. It had pretty planting schemes.

Another view of it (I just came back to to edit this as I knew I had about three pics of this one, but couldn't find them all!)

    This was pretty too.

Another one from the competition:  I think this one was the winner.  Don't know why I've missed out the other two contenders!

  • Right  -  -  last pictures for this year:

Trying to remember why this was displayed like this!

Most of the plants were hung up from the ceiling of the structure....

Maybe it was an environmental thing, I really don't know!

I liked this garden ornament:  It was on a pedestal, and quite huge, you couldn't put your arms around it.  So I waited until someone walked past, to give an idea of scale.

The flowery sign which greeted everyone on entering and leaving.

Detail showing all the hard work which had gone into it.

The deer in the deer park, as we drove away from our rather damp outing.  Taken from the moving car, so not very good!

  • Morning all:

Diane: I keep meaning to tell you how luck you are to have the deer family in your garden.

Lindybird: That garden with the wooden walkway and sandy soil looks a lot like the low-maintenance-low-water gardens now so popular here, but often with cactii and succulents.  The RHS sign is lovely.

OG: Miss D back at school starting this week.  Our SoCal schools aren't up and running until first week of September.

Slept well. Sun blasting through patio door, which is supposed to be dual-pane so why am I feeling the heat?  Just one more thing to add to the "needs looking at" list!

  • LINDA - more nice pics, thanks; loved the Flutterby Ladies and good to see the park as I remember it, with the Deer!

ANNETTE - pleased you slept well - sorry about the excessive heat.

The wheelchair arrived at lunchtime, and it is the right one!  Then had to debate where we put it and watch OH running about with plastic bags for accessories (don't ask!).  It has ended up in the garage space formerly occupied by the small scooter I had, and all the accessories with it, so no plastic bags!  He did find a dust cover to try to keep it clean.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Lovely pics, LINDY- thank you. You will be excited to have Amber for a few days.

OG- glad that the wheelchair has arrived and is all OK.

ANNETTE- enjoy the gardening! Isla has her own tools and is VERY keen.

Rain here most of the day. I've been sorting out the spider - sorry- saucepan drawer. Didn't feel inclined to do any ironing, though.

Mia's first day at secondary school tomorrow, she is looking forward to it.

  • The rain is back. Nevertheless I took myself to Port Adelaide library to visit local history room (limited hours).

Another church window. This from Keith National Trust Museum (former Congregational church). The old windows were taken to new Uniting church and replaced by a set depicting Keith from pioneering days. A rosella, blue wren, emu head, dragonfly, a native orchid and , of course, eucalyptus leaves.
