This is the beginning of a running thread of the off-season LG Nest Observation Thread until EJ's return next Spring. She may be on holiday or perhaps she is taking a leisurely route with long layovers, investigating nearby territories. God speed her to her wintering grounds and back to our eyes in 2018. With a bit of luck and good timing, EJ the Wise and Magnificent could oust the youngsters CT6 and apparent beau Twiggy from taking over her property.
Please post any notable observations here in the off-season. For more of this season's information on this nest, please see BNN's DU Summaries for 2017.
Photos of EJ fishing on July 14th (last day she was seen) at Aviemore Lochan, posted on FB by Dave Joicey, perhaps taken by Lynne Joicey.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Thank you for the early update, Scylla and the vid of y'day's visitor with his fish. Interesting. It's very difficult to see clearly, but I wonder whether it is CT6's unringed beau. The back of the head pattern looked vaguely familiar, but who can tell!!
I have scanned back over the past four hours, and although it would be easy to miss a fleeting visit, I don't think any osprey has landed in that time.
A pleasantly breezy day with sunshine and cloud. Ideal really!

What will be will be,I am sure the nest will be occupied by some ospreys next season and subject to my health I will be on egg watch next year so best wait and see.

Indeed, Limpy, what will be, will be. At the moment we just don't know. I too will be on watch, first for the arrival of EJ, hopefully, and then Odin or a mate and the whole roller coaster will start all over again! Meanwhile, keep smiling!
Thanks Sheila. It becomes a lot easier to smile because there are so many nice community users like yourself who post on here.
When you get hit with a bombshell the community on here really helps people to cope and keep our heads up, so to those people I say a big THANK YOU and long may this community and the people on here continue.
Hi Limpy, Nature has a way of drawing us in so I'm sure we will all be watching avidly no matter who the occupants of "Loch Garden Heights" are next year! It would be wonderful if EJ did come back but I would hate to see her go through another season like this one! Hope your health improves and I look forward to all your observations and photos next year.
Another scan back over the last four hours reveals nothing at all! I can't go thru it in real time so I don't know whether there was any skydancing going on, but the few times I stopped to listen I didn't even see a wee dickybird, let alone hear one.

It does seem as though we are sadly coming to the end of another season and not a good one as far as LG is concerned. However, I will be joining in next year whatever happens. As people have commented, it is Wildlife as it really is and, however sentimental we may feel, we just have to accept it. Things move on. I have to say though - I would dearly love to know what has happened to EJ.
Tiny buffer @ 2021hr, signalled by silence :)

Osprey voice in the distance? Could have been a snatch of skydancing.
