  • I have achieved nothing much outside today. Windy, and most of the needed chores involve sweeping up rose petals and same with philadelphus. Lots of work and just the same mess tomorrow. So hoping for a few wind and rain free days. I thought that I had dead headed the roses well but :-(

Youngest family are coming tomorrow. Son in law hopes to do some pruning. I have just taken two packs of minced steak out of freezer, will make lasagne for us to have for evening meal tomorrow.

  • Good to hear from BRENDAS family.

Wasn't last nights match a real nail biter???? Thank goodness Andy came through in the end.

  • Deck man didn't finish - he left mid afternoon to go to Carlisle races!  But he has done enough for us to see how good it will be!  I enjoyed my two hours outside - it is wonderful to be able to say I did some actual gardening - even if it was sitting down and playing with pots and troughs (on a wooden board on top of the wheelbarrow)!

HEATHER - youngest S-I-L seems to be very keen to help in the garden, so pleased for you.

DIBNLIB - glad you are enjoying the tennis; I can't watch Andy play as he loses if I do!  I hope the wrists and hands are less painful - must admit mine were not so pleased about the gardening!

Beautiful evening again: lots of happy birds!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • It's been beautiful here, too.  Too hot for me to sit out at lunchtime, but my OH did.   Then late afternoon I sat to read some old magazines & papers in the very pleasant sunshine, and as it turned to evening, we could hear the birds.

  • Only thing which spoilt it, was hearing a squeak, as Bonnie chased a toad which is in the garden. I ran to pull her away, and it escaped into the bottom of the shrubs (hopefully alright) - she was licking her lips a lot, so we reckon she had licked the toad! which my OH says would taste horrible, as part of their defence mechanism.

  • OG   The pain is much less, thank you. I would like to swim again next week and think that swimming would be ok, it's getting a wet costume off that might be a problem,    we will see!!!!

  • LINDY   Do you think that the awful taste might put her off.

  • OG- so pleased that you were able to do things while outside!

A nuisance about J's appointment but it will work out in the end. I hope that he enjoys his break up north.

My brother is still complaining about the very hot weather they are having. What is is about mad dogs and Englishmen? He stupidly worked outside yesterday afternoon and seems to have got a touch of heat stroke.

  • How is his business doing?  The Facebook page looks very busy!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Oh, Heather, he really should know better!  It's not a good idea to be working in such heat. I hope he will be alright.

Dibnlib: Bonnie has such a strong hunting instinct, she will chase anything which moves, unfortunately. We don't think she would ever eat a toad, but she might injure it. :-(   Sorry you're not able to swim yet.

OG - Glad your decking is coming along, even if it's not quite finished yet. Great that you're able to feel up to doing some gardening, even if it's only limited.

I'm off to bed, really tired.
