There's a nest in Ontario, Canada, west of Toronto that lost its female June 18. The male has stepped up to care for the 2 chicks (16 and 14 days old) by himself. Belwood Lake and Grand River - assuming those are his fishing grounds - look to be practically on the doorstep of the nest.
So far, so good...obviously a very fragile situation, but is it unheard of for a single parent to raise chicks from this stage to fledging?
Dad on the nest. Chicks trying to find shade in the grass.

Two chicks huddled up sleeping. Looks dry so that's a bonus

I think it is the RSPB website that is playing up Tempo, as there are lots of squares where there should be photos on all threads.
Yesterday some would open, some would not and then later if you tried those that had failed again, they would work!!
Birdies LG DU update.
Looked in just now - it seems to be raining again.
Its dry and Dad is feeding two hungry chicks :-) They are gobbling that fish down good style.
Just looked in and saw them panned out seeking shade and wondered if they had got fed. Relieved to see they have and that the smaller one is getting. When I saw the end of the feed yesterday he didn't seem to be getting anything

Every day is a new victory for these precious little ones.
Feed is still going on. Precious indeed they are.
