NEW CHAT THREAD

This is the new thread for the week. I am watching the news of the terror attacks in London. I don't think it's appropriate to post my usual wishes for a happy new week along with a cheerful photo. I will simply say that my thoughts are with all of my dear friends in the U.K. I hope you all stay safe.

  • How anyone can celebrate the fact that their country is divided, and in a mess, is beyond me........

  • It's only in a mess because of bad governance. I thought Dodgy Dave was the worst prime minister in British history but now Miserable May has proved me wrong. WE NEED AN END TO FAILED AUSTERITY AND A PROGRESSIVE ALLIANCE FOR A BETTER FUTURE.

  • Despite best intentions I ended up listening to Radio 4 until about 5am. This morning, the only thing I'm sure about is the total lack of impartiality displayed by some of the commentators in the studio.

  • Rain in the night, but now all drying up in the sunshine - paths are clear for my walk to the car to get in (with physios later this morning).  Being optimistic, have booked a "monthly special" evening (American theme) at the Old Toll Bar at the end of the month - they had heard that I'd fallen - news does travel here!

Have read all the posts, but short of time this morning - will just say I don't do politics, but it is very interesting today!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • OH thinks the new finch yesterday was not a Linnet, but a Red Poll.  I don't think the one we saw today was the same bird, so I think we had a Linnet yesterday (slimmer and longer) and a Red Poll today!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Wonderful that you are going back to OTB at the end of the month, OG! What happy news. What a reception you will get.

Very wet here, I'm so frustrated when I look at jobs to be done outside.

Off to town shortly. I don't usually go at the weekend, so today will get a few bits and pieces. I'm planning cold salmon with salad and baby potatoes for my main meal, today. Yesterday's purchase of dill, with butter, on the new potatoes.

AQ - yes, it is mostly fresh herbs that the cheffy types use but Rick was in Greece. maybe dried oregano is more commonly used, there.

The little machine that brushes the pavements etc has just passed by. That is one less job for me, I hate seeing detritus lying on the roadside and because the road dips somewhat outside our house, everyone's leaves, petals etc (including mine, of course) end up waiting for me to wield the broom.

    Take care, everyone.

  • I usually freeze fresh garden herbs to use rather than dried in winter.  Either chop into small containers, or leave leafy ones whole and crumble frozen into dishes.

Car trial was fine - need a bit of help with getting left foot in and out, so physio showed OH how.  She hasn't made a further appointment to see me, but is keeping my file open until September in case I need any help.  Am to continue walking with frame indoors and crutches outside - only in dry weather!  Am to progress to sticks if I feel the time is right - but keep doing everything slowly.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Things seem to be going well, OG. It is so good that you can get in and out of the car with EE's help. After so many months looking mostly at four walls....

Thanks for the tip about the herbs. I will freeze, rather than dry, I think. My main herb problem is basil. It is so prone to whitefly that I don't grow it outside, or in the greenhouse. Don't fancy eating basil that has been sprayed. Even grown on kitchen windowsill I have found whitefly on it.

Going to phone hospital this afternoon and enquire regarding the so called unpaid bill. I've heard nothing since Monday when the secretary was going to try and trace the cheque that I paid and was cashed on 2nd December.

  • PS Have just phoned hospital. Guess what? He hadn't checked his bank statements properly before he wrote to me. That was the first question that I asked his secretary on Monday. What a silly billy he is and apparently he feels very embarrassed. Well, he won't do that again, I hope :-)

  • OG   Slow progress, but good progress.
