NEW CHAT THREAD

This is the new thread for the week. I am watching the news of the terror attacks in London. I don't think it's appropriate to post my usual wishes for a happy new week along with a cheerful photo. I will simply say that my thoughts are with all of my dear friends in the U.K. I hope you all stay safe.

  • Brighter here this morning but still raining in Elgin. Last evening youngest family there were on 'toilet watch' (remembering our dear MARGO as I type this). Road was flooded and many concerned residents outside their houses. Eventually a council lorry appeared and perhaps cleaned out the drains by the side of the road. Some of these were full of leaves. The water started disappearing quite quickly and the water level in the downstairs loo subsided also. PHEW!!! Elgin is notorious for flooding problems and a brand new flood alleviation scheme came in to being this year. Son in law put sandbags at the gate. He was lucky to have them. Apparently residents in another area - not sure quite where - asked for sandbags 'NOW'and were reassured by the council that they were keeping an eye on things, all would be OK. Guess what - the river burst it's banks. So much for keeping an eye on things....

I have to go to solicitor's office today and sign some papers to do with confirmation of OH's Will. In England, I think it is called probate. That is because some things were in my name and some in his. For tax purposes, I believe. Bank accounts were in joint names so I have not starved, LOL.

  • Thank goodness, the rain has stopped at last. Glad your Elgin relatives were ok HEATHER.

  • Thanks, DIBNLIB. Wonder if WENDY had any problems.

  • We went to see "Their Finest " yesterday, and enjoyed it.  As I won 4x£25 on ERNIE this month, I decided that while we were at Eden Court I would get tickets for "La Boheme" on the 17th, so looking forward to that.

  • OG - My 'to file' tray is rather full. I will have to set some time aside to put my filing clerk hat on. I hate office work.

Signed papers this afternoon. Apparently everything should be sorted in about a month's time. I'll believe that when it happens. It wasn't a pleasant experience but something that had to be done.

No rain here, today. My tomatoes are looking better and better. I still have a lot to do outside, though. I told youngest son in law that I was afraid that I would end up like the Sleeping Beauty in a house surrounded by greenery but in my case, no Prince to come!! He reassured me that he would attack things before they became that bad.

  • HEATHER - I had wondered about your Youngest and family in Elgin - pleased they were okay (not so good in Portsoy, I believe).  I hope the business visit went as well as it could this afternoon - oh I see you did find it difficult, but it is another step towards that side of things being sorted.  Pleased to see the SiL is being so helpful with the garden.  Tomatoes really do come on quickly once they have started; glad you are pleased with them.

Had my hair cut back to its usual short today - it had got so long in hospital, that hairdresser and I didn't dare cut it all off straight away, but now felt it was time to do it - much lighter for summer.  Also enjoyed my longest walk so far - that is round to the car and back!  Still find the breeze a challenge to balancing.  Getting quite good at negotiating front door, but still having trouble with the sill at the back door - although it is identical - something to do with the angle of approach.

Supervised making of a lamb hot-pot this afternoon - smalls soooo appetising; glad it's nearly dinner time.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Heather thanks for thinking about my part of the world..

Sleepless night with general wind noise and pelting rain. Our fields had no runoff so all was well. Journey to Elgin showed the full force. Roads washed out onto main road and the River Spey brown and very very high. My heart goes out to the people of Spey Bay and Garmouth when high tide came. First test for the multi million pound Elgin flood defenses and I think they have been found wanting. Hope your family are OK.

Daisy was pleased to get out and about and a little bit of sun this pm.

Can't believe it's a year since my friend and I visited the Farnes and caught up with the

lovely Jen formally of LG. Where does the time go apart from far too fast.

  • Glad you were OK WENDY. Yes, family OK it was their first experience of this kind of thing.

  • Hi all, not been on for a while.   Just read through all your news.

Watched part of the concert from Manchester and have taped it for dau. to finish watching it.   Although I am not into pop music it was really moving what I saw and heard.

We have had it pretty wet down here too, although today has been dry, sunny, and breezy, but they reckon we are in for more rain overnight.

Been without a car since last Thursday after OH had an accident and clipped a wheel on a kerb going through a shikane arrangement.    Didn't realis how much damage he'd done until he'd driven a few more miles and then heard a grating sound. Apparently the tyre had shredded and he was driving on the rim.  To cut a long story short he had to take it into his Honda dealership - new wheel, tyre, service and MOT so not sure how much it is going to cost but certainly an arm and a leg and perhaps much more. Can't pick it up till tomorrow , so someone is coming over to take him in.  Oh, and another thing - I had an argument with a step whilst out last Thursday and fell flat on my face and my left leg (new knee) took the brunt.  Managed to get up but was ushered into the dealership where they phoned for the paramedics. First Responder arrived and after examination told me that I had to go to hospital as it was a head injury and I was on anticoagulants.  Result was, nasty bruising and a cut on nose, bruising on leg and a broken bone between big toe and 1st toe so having to wear a special rocking boot for between 2/4 weeks until healed.  Oh well, that's life for me at present but heh ho not as bad as other folks are having.

Apologies for the long post.   Love the pictures you post Lindy especially of the sunset - it is a wonderful planet we live on but not a sensible world we live in.
