It goes to show how vulnerable a nest can be without an established pair's vigilance. Yet another Blue Ring intruder appeared --- Blue HS8 --- who is a three year old female from the Isle of Bute. Though EJ defended the nest, we saw no talons yesterday. But we also did not see the unringed male either. Was he just passing through? Should we be disappointed, or relieved? Just as a reminder, this may be a good time to revisit the Odin thread. Sad nest. :'-(© RSPB - Loch Garten and Carnyx Wild

Thanks for starting the daily thread CC.
A piece of prime estate like the Loch Garten nest will not go uncontested for long. When Ollie failed to return in 2002 there was a huge battle between six males. Eventually Black 8Y triumphed but I do not think he fed Olive. In any event he failed to return in 2003.
There was presentation about Agincourt in early April 2003 and then new osprey turned up a week later sporting the ring ochre HV He just had to be called Henry.
However Henry's grip on power was short lived. He was defeated by an immature male who would not feed Olive. Eventually Olive just flew away.
Henry later got the nest back from the young impostor.
But then on Monday 16th June 2003 a new osprey landed on the nest. She wore a white ring on her right leg with the letters EJ in black. Does she sound familiar?

Thank you for starting us off again, CC :-*
Thank you for the history lesson, TIGER - we comparative newbies, and total newbies I'm sure, like to read the story - life goes on.
I'm around but am catching up on Glaslyn and Arkaig with pics and vids. Will soon fill in LG but I doubt there will be much to add :(

How right I was! No activity apart from the usual flutter of mothy things before midnight.
No light is showing on the horizon yet.
Sunday morning is well and truly here!
I hope an early coffee will keep me awake for the morning get-go - it's bound to be busy ;-)
Some light now:
