DAILY UPDATE ~ Loch Garten nest ~ Tuesday, 23 May 2017

Not a good day yesterday. Still no Odin. Started out ENS, then an unringed intruder, then to our relief, EJ returned to the nest with a partially eaten fish, ate the rest on the Fish Perch. But later when it began to rain, she came back to brood the empty nest cup. She was a forlorn sight in the rain. A partial eggshell is still there, and she returned later in the evening and hunched over the cup again until the rain ceased before flying off again. Now ENS. I have to say Moffer the tears were tripping me while I was writing that last paragraph and if that makes me weak and not in the real world then so be it, I am proud to be that person who cares with all her heart.

I know. It has been a heart wrenching year, and I too have shed tears. WE CARE!

EDIT. Hope you don't mind Mary, bur I added your lovely pics to the EJ thread.

  • Still no change with the cam. Crows heard a while ago, but no Ospreys seen or heard.

  • It looks like rain. Cam is searching for EJ.

    Love tree

    Fish perch

    Odin's branch :o((

No luck, back to the nest

  • I hear rain... same view as earlier, of the wide angle.

We have a word for this weather in Dutch: "druilerig", that i think comes very close to the Scottish "dreich" <- which i obviously do not know how to spell?! :p

2016: first time in history an Osprey nested in the NL. 2018: 2 active nests! 2019 a storm interferes. 2020: a third active nest in a tree!

  • Thanks ALAN and MOFFER

Am very emotional at this whole situation as I know many of you are Thinking of us all

  • Coal Tit in the middle of the nest at least that is something better than ENS

  • Hi Moffer - glad to see you are keeping your chin up in the these sad times on the LG nest.  At least we know that EJ is OK - well sort of.

  • Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum and | do admit to having a few glasses of wine before I posted this, but what posters are going through has encouraged me to be to be a part of this sad time. I have wanted to join in with you all in going through the ups and down of the lives of EJ and Odin but somehow I held back. The wonderful people who have voiced their concerns and opinions on here have warmed my heart and given me a new insight into the future. I can now see that because of the care and compassion that people have shown for a male and female bird, not just looking after each other, but showing the love and protection of their offspring not only warms my heart but brings me to tears! The horrible atrocities that are going on in the world are enough to bring people to despair, but having followed the blog on this website about the lives of these two magnificent birds has given me real hope for the future. The people on this website have shown such compassion and that gives me hope for the future. You are truly wonderful, caring, compassionate human beings ( and that includes the people working for the RSPB who have had to watch the heartbreaking moments when the chicks have starved to death in front of their caring, loving mother, who would not leave their side, even if it meant her starving to death ). Thank you everyone of you for caring. There really is a future for all us living beings if people like yourselves are in the world. I am so sorry for waffling on but I needed to tell you. Warmest regards to all of you.

    Jan.

  • Welcome Jan.

I am new member this season, and I am heartened to find so many compassionate friendly people in one place, despite the situation endured recently.

    Here's to happier times.
