Odin not seen since 18 May 2017 early afternoon --- 3 days. We have one chick left, no fish deliveries, and an unringed male hanging about the nest. I am personally moved by the greatest forum participants I have ever seen. Many opinions expressed with no personal rancor in the disagreements. I believe all are opening their hearts and minds in a fervent unified wish for the best for EJ. As one forum poster said, "If only EJ knew how many are thinking of her." I am back in town and stricken to see all the news, yet so very honored to be in the company of such courageous nature watchers. Thank you all.
At this moment EJ is sleeping on a mercifully quiet nest with a light wind but no precipitation. May she have peaceful dreams that come true for her.© RSPB - Loch Garten and Carnyx Wild

Birdie Num Num's brilliant DU summary 2017
That last one seems a very suitable image.
"Privacy please" + "There is fish!"
(where there is fish, there is life & hope, however small...)
ps:
50p for the anthropomorphism-thing re "privacy"
2016: first time in history an Osprey nested in the NL. 2018: 2 active nests! 2019 a storm interferes. 2020: a third active nest in a tree!
:o((( (tears)
I agree wholeheartedly. The decision was taken to let these ospreys die and that was their choice. Like you, I can only say I think it was the wrong decision and it wouldn't have been mine or perhaps some others.
It's like the wildlife programs on TV that show a mother rhino trying to defend her young while hyenas distract her while the others can attack and kill her baby, savage to watch, and of course it would happen if we weren't there, , survival and perhaps mouths to feed, however, when we are there and we CAN prevent suffering, it is only my belief that we should. Especially knowing (in this case) that these animals are on the brink of extinction.
We CAN help red squirrels increase again if we cull greys and help the native reds to recover, and not stand by and watch them become extinct. The greys are here due to 'mans intervention'
Anyway, soap box put away, I know it's only my opinion and has been a minefield of emotions for everyone. Thank goodness we ALL care! We are all different, and as my gran used to say...'It would be a long queue at the fish shop if we all liked the same thing' never truer words! and we must move on!
Good to see EJ enjoying her well deserved fish at last!
Bless her she seems confused in the last lot of photos. I kept thinking of her last night buried in the snow protecting her eggs and now all for nothing.
wonderful pictures - she seems so alone
