Welcome to EJ and Odin's first chick of the season, reports yesterday's Strathspey&Badenoch Herald! This was certainly the buzz of the day after our days and nights of anxious waiting. Unfortunately, the cam lost its focus last night, and is now completely down. No, I just checked it again and see a fuzzy EJ wobble as well as hear the tiny chucks of a little one!© RSPB - Loch Garten and Carnyx WildYesterday's capture during a first feed, from BNN.

Hello, wonderful news to turn on two osplets, Odin arriving with a fish, and EJ feeding them! Little noises from the osplets too!
Thank you all for the pics and vids, and news!
Birdie's DU Summaries 2018 https://www.imagicat.com/
10.01 Odin has flown and we can see EJ feeding the osplets! Awww
10.32 Odin intruder calls. EJ looks alert, paddles beneath her. Something flew overhead. Odin gives his screech, EJ shrinks. Shadow over the nest. Loud calls from Odin. Whew over now. It is now 10.37 and all quiet. Nothing/no one landed on the nest, but someone got very close overhead.
Good morning all. How fab, two osplets now. I did say yesterday at noon that the hatching window was open for #2 to hatch, although some people thought that it was early. #3 should hatch some time on Saturday I think. Thank you for the posts and vids earlier, as always Scylla, just wonderful.
Catch up.
Odin landed on the nest at 9.17 and claimed the fish (fish 1)
He stood on the nest holding the fish (with EJ calling) until 9.25 and then flew off with it
9.56 Odin returns with fish 1 having eaten a good portion of it
EJ takes it and a feed commences
Of course, Odin stands in the way of our view
10.01 Odin leaves
10.09 Both chicks have had enough. EJ cleans up and settles.
10.32 Odin alarm calls off cam. EJ is looking
10.33 Intruder above the nest
shadow of Intruder hovers above the nest
Seen behind the nest flying away
and then Odin in persuit
Birdie Num Num's brilliant DU summary 2017
I love the various suggestions for preliminary names of our osplets, assuming we have three. I like Tiger's suggestion of Snow with its links to the dreadful snow fall while EJ was incubating, her 26th chick. And of course in memory of two lovely contributors to these threads, Margo and Brenda for the 27th and 28th chicks. I am quoting the Badenoch & Spey news article in the chick numbers, I haven't checked myself, and knowing the media, that could well be wrong! LOL.
I am glad to say the nest is quiet again. EJ has moved one of the hedgehog, an then the 'y' shaped stick, the former has blocked any possible view!!!!
The two youngsters must be wriggling beneath her. She keeps paddling and checking. Then moved the 'y' stick further back.... and forward. Then has a bite at the hedgehog.
Another bite, another paddle, another bite!
She attacked another short stubby stick, got up over the cup to check again.
10.50
All seems OK, and she settles again.... no, up again, checks, and settles
10.53
Good morning Moffer. I am afraid I am going now. Enjoy the viewing everyone.
This thread is oh so slow for me this morning, hope it picks up soon.
Great news that things are going so well. Fish, and now TWO osplets!!
Thanks for all the posts and vids.
