THE LOCH GARTEN GABFEST FOR MAY, 2017

  • So I had concluded, Keith, I just hadn't got around to saying so yet.  Well, I wasn't quite that drastic in my  thinking.  More like: Roy may be happy, but Odin & EJ are not and neither am I.  What with crows who like osprey eggs for breakfast (or lunch or dinner)and Cromarty who wants to move in, it may be all too much for Odin and EJ to cope with.  Of course I hope not.

Seems I am behind on my osprey news too. I check in on the LG cam several times a day and never see anything except EJ setting on the cup.  When I check in at DU for news they seem content that all is well, but I haven't looked in at DU today.

  • I hate to say it, but Odin just does not seem to be the heroic Prince Charming that he once was.  I noticed a sudden difference the year EJ was unfaithful when she was too impatient to await his return.  At least one other careful observer was of the same opinion.

  • Good evening June and every one. Just logged in to read the awful news that Odin is missing and again intruder problems :O I was delighted to see Cromarty had returned but he is causing destruction at the LG nest. I know hes just doing what come naturally to ospreys the survival of the fittest. It makes unpleasant reading, but again we choose to !

I fear for the survival of the chicks :(

  • And just to top it all I read that the 4 egg at Manton Bay had hatched but the chick died soon after :(

Thankyou Mulberry for researching the "Bobble head" word!

June Odin will always be a hero to me LOL!

  • And of course Odin is what? 8 years ? older than he was when he first came. We/they thought he was quite young then, but as they have said many times, they don't really know.  I have heard speculation within the last year or so that he may have been older than they originally thought.  In addition to age, Injuries he has sustained in the past may have reduced his fighting protective abilities.

  • I know what you mean, Willow.  For me, too!

  • Feel like having a good cry!  Had high hope for the this year and also was delighted that Maya and B33 had 4 eggs, now 2 chicks lost :( Maybe the 2 survivors will thrive without the competition, still so sad :(

Cannot watch what is going on at Glaslyn with Mrs G and Aran and 5F, as Keith says one of these nests will fail. Hopefully before any chicks hatch, oh dear :(

  • Oh DEAR, this is TERRIBLE!!!  Just read the LG Blog. It is bad enough to have eggs kicked out, but to have two dear little bobbleheads deliberately destroyed is unthinkable and unbearable. And don't anybody bother to tell me "It's just nature". I've heard it all before. I'm praying for the best, but fearing the worst.

  • Willow before this is over, we may both be bawling our eyes out.  It would not be the first time for me.

  • I'll be up till past your dawn.  5:00 am your time is only midnight here.  I'll watch the nest more closely than usual, but I cannot sit in front of it all night.  However I do not expect Odin to come in until breakfast time.
