Smashing photos YD and the young ospreys. Particularly great to see YD - a favourite of mine.
Thanks, Mary, for the latest couple of sets of Darren's photos--wonderful.
Kind regards, Ann
Got to laugh, we have been starved of photos of Blue YD in recent years, this year we have an abundance of photographs him, the more the merrier I say. It is just so brilliant to know he is doing well.

That satellite pack on his back is really noticeable, I wish I could make up my mind about whether they are a good or bad thing.

A question which divides opinion Ian. My take is that without it we would have lost so much information. The Rutland work in Africa, together with other teams, is essentially aimed at protecting the birds by working with the locals. I think there is clear evidence that the locals can benefit greatly by looking after the birds and from the tourism that brings.
Birdies LG DU update.
More fab photos of the Balgavies family by Gordon Gibson.
I guess they will be leaving soon, so must make the most of them while we can.

[/quote]It's not just migrating birds like ospreys. It's been a very useful way of showing just how many raptors like eagles and hen harriers disappear on or near shooting estates in the UK. Previously, birds like this were just disappearing....increasingly, we know where.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Ian, there was a post on the Loch Arkaig chat which might be of interest. Have a look at :- BBC Nature Roy Dennis Winter in West Africaand BBC Nature Roy Dennis Osprey Heaven. Just enter them in Google and apart from some great videos Roy makes the point about increasing knowledge in Africa.
