Update on UV

Thankyou Jaydee for the update on UV, I too dont like the idea of him roosting on the desert floor as I think of Rutlands AW? who was predated. I suppose there are no trees or many places suitable so have no choice :( Come on home safely UV ! Now the Atlas Mountains! Are they challenging for a migrating osprey?

It was Rutland's 09(8) who was probably predated by an Eagle Owl when about to cross the Sahara. As you say there is little chice of roosts in the desert. The elevations on Google Earth indicate that on the night of 16/17 April UV was on slightly higher ground than the surrounding terrain so possibly the top of a dune. He would have good visibility.

The highest mountains in the east of the Atlas range rise to over 3500m and are usually avoided by migrating Ospreys. Kielder juvenile VV, UV's sibling, appeared to be struggling to find a path through high mountains on her first migration and we heard no more from her tracker. The deep valleys are intensely cold at night.

UV's course would take him to the western side which he's crossed successfully before.
