The purpose of this thread is for recording the season’s day to day activity at the Manton Bay nest thus freeing up the Rutland Osprey Project 2017 thread for general news on all the other birds, nests and projects.
For anyone new following Manton Bay, Maya and Blue 33(11) have been the resident pair for the last two years and to date have raised six chicks. More details about the nest and a table of the breeding data can be found here. Last season Maya returned on the 21 March and Blue 33(11) arrived a few days later on the 27 March.

I am sure I speak for us all in wishing Maya and Blue 33(11) a safe journey home and for another successful season at Manton Bay.
Same here Scylla. Except that my VLC doesn't work. :-/ But yes, MB has been freezing regularly the last couple of hours.

Just back up.
I see more sticks have been brought in :-D Just looking at those two sticking up ... that reminds me so much of the ski-ing / pole vaulting episode LOL

It is very windy where I am which is about 20 miles from Rutland Water so I would guess it is the same there.
Very windy here too , it will be coming straight down the reservoir into the bay.
Intruder around ... Maya and 33 mantling
The two long stick lying on the right of the nest fall over the edge as Maya takes off to give chase. Then 33 attempts to take off and appears to get tangled a little in the bedding. As he rises one the sticks standing up falls away. Between the wind and the scuffling, now both of these sticks are gone.
I was out all day yesterday, so lovely to return and see all the news of the return of both our pair, same day too!
Still very windy and only Maya on the nest.
Pleased to have seen both of them catch a large fish yesterday as I don't expect either of them will have been able to fish today.
She is having to hunker down into the wind, white horses out there today.
