The purpose of this thread is for recording the season’s day to day activity at the Manton Bay nest thus freeing up the Rutland Osprey Project 2017 thread for general news on all the other birds, nests and projects.
For anyone new following Manton Bay, Maya and Blue 33(11) have been the resident pair for the last two years and to date have raised six chicks. More details about the nest and a table of the breeding data can be found here. Last season Maya returned on the 21 March and Blue 33(11) arrived a few days later on the 27 March.

I am sure I speak for us all in wishing Maya and Blue 33(11) a safe journey home and for another successful season at Manton Bay.
Morning all ...
Cormorant on the nest just now.
And now it has got itself comfy!
Well if it's keeping the Egyptian geese out, why not? I love cormorants.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
OSPREY ON THE NEST NOW
Edit: THIS IS 1(J)13
Exciting!! Seems to be gone now.

It has now flown.
I could not believe my eyes! Just returned from showering and whilst aware of the cormorant, I then looked and thought NO, that is an osprey :-D))
Oh I wonder if it is Maya back or one of the other females. I could not see the back of the head to +ID
On FB says blue ringed osprey.
Thanks Starling.
I'm no use for this nest I couldn't ID any of them!
Wow but if ringed not the one we are waiting for.
It was 1J, confirmed by Rutland
