The purpose of this thread is for recording the season’s day to day activity at the Manton Bay nest thus freeing up the Rutland Osprey Project 2017 thread for general news on all the other birds, nests and projects.
For anyone new following Manton Bay, Maya and Blue 33(11) have been the resident pair for the last two years and to date have raised six chicks. More details about the nest and a table of the breeding data can be found here. Last season Maya returned on the 21 March and Blue 33(11) arrived a few days later on the 27 March.

I am sure I speak for us all in wishing Maya and Blue 33(11) a safe journey home and for another successful season at Manton Bay.
If not tomorrow then definitely Saturday as the visitors centre opens for the season. I'm getting quite excited!

Me neither, and I remember trying to find the video last year and it taking me ages, so I put "stilts" in the title.

Thank You Scylla for finding 33's stilts episode, so funny.

Karen, Thanks for starting the thread. Regulars will not need to read further but I wonder, especially for anyone who has never visited Rutland Water, if it might be a bit confusing to see both 'Manton Bay' and 'Rutland' used in various places. Perhaps if we explained that Rutland Water reservoir is a very large body of water and that Manton Bay is only one arm or bay on the reservoir and that it holds only one Osprey nest platform, the one used by Maya and 33. However there are other nest platforms on other arms/bays of Rutland Water and there are many other platforms/nests on private land around Rutland Water and which are not in the public domain, some of which have had Osprey nests and some of which were unoccupied, at least in the last year or more. An example of the not used ones is the platform on Lagoon 4 of Rutland Water which had the problem of newly nesting Ospreys 51 and 3J who could not evict the Egyptian Geese. Perhaps Mike will again post his link to a map for us (please!)
Kind regards, Ann
Thanks for such a comprehensive start to the thread Karen.
