The purpose of this thread is for recording the season’s day to day activity at the Manton Bay nest thus freeing up the Rutland Osprey Project 2017 thread for general news on all the other birds, nests and projects.
For anyone new following Manton Bay, Maya and Blue 33(11) have been the resident pair for the last two years and to date have raised six chicks. More details about the nest and a table of the breeding data can be found here. Last season Maya returned on the 21 March and Blue 33(11) arrived a few days later on the 27 March.

I am sure I speak for us all in wishing Maya and Blue 33(11) a safe journey home and for another successful season at Manton Bay.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
I've been thru the recordings since late afternoon and not a soul seen.
Just going to investigate some bounces.

Could it be a Common Gull? Clare
Just looking at it now, looks like it has yellow legs. Maybe a young one of the species so has different coloured legs :-) Not sure either as there seems to be quite a variety of gulls to identify.

I don't know what, if anything, prompted their apparently hasty departure.
