The purpose of this thread is for recording the season’s day to day activity at the Manton Bay nest thus freeing up the Rutland Osprey Project 2017 thread for general news on all the other birds, nests and projects.
For anyone new following Manton Bay, Maya and Blue 33(11) have been the resident pair for the last two years and to date have raised six chicks. More details about the nest and a table of the breeding data can be found here. Last season Maya returned on the 21 March and Blue 33(11) arrived a few days later on the 27 March.

I am sure I speak for us all in wishing Maya and Blue 33(11) a safe journey home and for another successful season at Manton Bay.
Well, look who is back!
TeeJay, what a wicked sense of humour you have :-D I don't want to think about how many could be on the shore line LOL
Earlier there was a little scuffle between the female EG and the cormorant as she was looking around the nest but they all appear to be settled down now. Looks like they have all claimed the nest!
The quicker Maya and 33 are back the better!

Am just checking in to see if anyone's already posted vid - I should have it, it caught my eye but I was preoccupied so couldn't attend to it right away. Let's see... :)
(It will be a while as I have to crop off the wide cam.)

Thanks, Everyone, for the pics and posts. Hooray--I was hoping Rutland Osprey Project would step in and do something about the nest and EG eggs.
LOL, TJ! Now all we need is for someone to start a restaurant featuring EG roast--lol! It would be less expensive than transportation and if they breed all year round then they are probably not endangered...
Kind regards, Ann
TEEJAY - thanks for that vivid photo of the EGs!
Ann-GB - I'm shocked at your red-bloodedness ;-D
I didn't even realise the nest had been tended - I do wish these organisations wouldn't shut us out when they do admin work ;-)
Here is the earlier "confrontation" when the EGs join the Cormorant on the nest. A long episode, and my vid ends with peace between Cormorant and female EG sitting on the proposed nestcup, but I now see that the Cormorant is alone again.

Snaps come out fuzzy, unfortunately:

After another face-off (the cause of which was lost in a browser refresh) the female EG waved her head over the nest cup for a while and then suddenly flew off.
Our Cormorant spent a peaceful night in solitude:
C flew off while I wasn't looking.
Nest is empty now.
