The purpose of this thread is for recording the season’s day to day activity at the Manton Bay nest thus freeing up the Rutland Osprey Project 2017 thread for general news on all the other birds, nests and projects.
For anyone new following Manton Bay, Maya and Blue 33(11) have been the resident pair for the last two years and to date have raised six chicks. More details about the nest and a table of the breeding data can be found here. Last season Maya returned on the 21 March and Blue 33(11) arrived a few days later on the 27 March.

I am sure I speak for us all in wishing Maya and Blue 33(11) a safe journey home and for another successful season at Manton Bay.
Both on the cam perch at the mo...
Thank you Sandra. Great to get the'news from the front line'! as Karen says.
Birdies LG DU update.
Both flew down onto the nest, mated which looked unsuccessful, then Maya flew off returning with a large clod of straw.
Both on the nest now

33 and Maya still on the nest but where has the fish gone?
Intruder!
Another lands on the nest
Maya takes off from left of nest, leaving 33 mantling at front and as on bottom cam, intruder nearest us who takes off too!
Maya returns to left of nest and intruder to right. 33 stayed on the nest.
I am suspect the intruder is female as it is Maya who is giving chase while 33 remains on nest defending.
I wish the cams were in sync!
Great captures Karen, I imagine they will have to do a lot of defending this year.
Thanks Jane ... hopefully it will all settle down once their partners arrive back :-)
33 had taken off but returns with Maya to the nest and mantling ... intruder must still be around
I'm back home now so missed all the action! My shift was pretty uneventful with the highlight being the fish at about 630 that was very much alive and flapping!
It was great to see them both looking healthy and back in Rutland though
What a shame Sandra. Was just thinking that you'd be enjoying that and we'd get a first hand account!
Sandra, never mind at least you saw them :-)
