The purpose of this thread is for recording the season’s day to day activity at the Manton Bay nest thus freeing up the Rutland Osprey Project 2017 thread for general news on all the other birds, nests and projects.
For anyone new following Manton Bay, Maya and Blue 33(11) have been the resident pair for the last two years and to date have raised six chicks. More details about the nest and a table of the breeding data can be found here. Last season Maya returned on the 21 March and Blue 33(11) arrived a few days later on the 27 March.

I am sure I speak for us all in wishing Maya and Blue 33(11) a safe journey home and for another successful season at Manton Bay.
I bet it is really windy there today.

I have just checked GE out, and was surprised to see how shallow the water can be at Manton Bay. This snip really shows up what I think they must call The Bund.
and this is a wider view, which sadly :), doesn't indicate the lagoons!!
Sheila this map might help re the lagoons. It is on a totally different scale but I'm sure you can resolve that.
Birdies LG DU update.
The water is pretty shallow in places in MB, particularly when the entire reservoir levels are low enough for the bund to be visible. Last season the bund was under water for the majority of the time. It didn't stop 33 fishing near the edges however! I saw him catch 2 tench within 20 minutes close to the edges between Waderscrape hide and Shallow Water hide.
Thank you Mike, I had seen that, and it was somewhat in jest, but I am almost ashamed to admit that although I have been to Rutland a few times, I have only ever visited MB - I wonder why! - except for the BirdFair. I really ought to make more of an effect and explore more of the Water! At least to find out where Lagoon 4 is, if nothing else!

I'm bringing forward Sandra's personal experience, as it had landed on the dreaded bottom of the page. Thank you, Sandra :)

EGs look settled in but it's raining so maybe they'll go for shelter.
Arrival for a short visit earlier in the evening:
Nestcupping:
One had a snooze:
Shall we stay or shall we go?
Off they both flew - it didn't look as tho they were scared off.
Someone flew perchwards (where's NOC? what's the point of typing NOCCY words if she's not here to appreciate them?)...
Not an EG, not a Cormorant, not an Osprey... maybe a gull?
EG have flown, empty nest and no sunrise.... wonder where Mr.C went...
