The 2017 season is almost upon us and my first thoughts are of 03(97) / Mr Rutland as he was usually the first back on or around the 17th March and heralded the start of the season.

Sadly 03(97) is no longer with us but it is nice to think of him and smile knowing his legacy will live on as we now eagerly await the safe return of all the regulars and also new returnees.
A safe journey to all.
I have amended the opening post to include the distinctive photo we all know and instantly identify as that of 03(97) – Mr Rutland.
I would like to thank Mike for contacting Rutland and of course sincere thanks to Rutland for their permission to use it.

That photo of 03(97) is such an iconic photo, it is one that will be remembered by many.
When I started to first follow Ospreys back In 2011 it was LG first then Dyfi, and the first time I seen this photograph it was in a caravan magazine and it confused me as my first reaction was that it was Nora, it wasn't until I read the full feature I was to learn differently so my first introduction to Mr. Rutland has always stuck in my mind. LOL.... what a legacy he left!

I believe 3J took herself off to Wales but there is hope she will come back to Rutland this year. Fingers crossed!
Agreed that 03(97) was certainly a star and (luckily for Ospreyholics!) his genes are widespread in his many descendants who have returned and bred successfully, both at Rutland and on the Dyfi Estuary and possibly elsewhere at sites which are not public knowledge. Thanks, All, for receiving permission to use Mr Rutland's photo. Here's hoping that 51 and 3J and Blue 24 all return safely and find a nest and partners and have chicks.
Kind regards, Ann
