The 2017 season is almost upon us and my first thoughts are of 03(97) / Mr Rutland as he was usually the first back on or around the 17th March and heralded the start of the season.

Sadly 03(97) is no longer with us but it is nice to think of him and smile knowing his legacy will live on as we now eagerly await the safe return of all the regulars and also new returnees.
A safe journey to all.
Thanks ALAN That IS exciting
Thanks Alan for the link ... what brilliant news!
That is just wonderful news on S6
What wonderful news to hear of S6 returning. I hope she stays at Rutland, and doesn't fancy Wales at all :-)

Kayleigh mentions within the blog - quote "20 ospreys have now returned with 7 nesting pairs in the Rutland Water area" . Unfortunately no details of who other than 30(05). Pity.
Thanks, Alan, for the link about S6. Great news!
Kind regards, Ann

Sheila, there are in fact six unattached males! Kayleigh mentioned it in yesterday's blog "Coming Home" re S6's return.
Quote: "The fact that she is a female makes us all even happier, as we have six male ospreys who are currently unattached"
Like you, I only know of the three - 51(11), 1J(13) and 30(10).
Lets hope they find the River Gwash Fishery for some IDs :-D
Karen - River Gwash posted on 15th April a list of six male Ospreys....

Will these be the six mentioned ?
Ah the penny has dropped, you meant which was the fourth un-attached male, is that right!
EDIT - Yes it's a bit of a mystery isn't it, as the other three males are all attached, so where does a fourth male come in? Who said there was four unattached males? Will they please stand up ha ha.... I have'nt time to search back to find out, but I am sure you will solve it Karen :-)
Hi Mary - thanks for the link to the RG's list which only includes two - 30(10) and 1J(13) that we know are unattached. The other four in the list - 33(11), 28(10) etc, they mention breeding at MB and off site nests.
So we are still looking for the IDs of the other three unattached males.
EDIT: Just noticed your edit Mary -
To summarise - there are three unattached males who were all reported back so we know about them. Tiger posted he knew of four single males but did not ID the fourth. Yesterday, Kayleigh reported that there were six unattached males. So the latest is that there are six unattached males - three we know off and three we don't :-)
