The 2017 season is almost upon us and my first thoughts are of 03(97) / Mr Rutland as he was usually the first back on or around the 17th March and heralded the start of the season.

Sadly 03(97) is no longer with us but it is nice to think of him and smile knowing his legacy will live on as we now eagerly await the safe return of all the regulars and also new returnees.
A safe journey to all.
That is brilliant news that 51(11) has also returned safely back to Rutland.
They are an interesting pair to follow with them pairing then splitting last year.
Hopefully we will hear more about them from the team during the season.
Thanks, Mike, great news that 51(11) is back--I missed that.
Kind regards, Ann
51(11) has taken over the nest in Lagoon 1.
Lovely--thanks, Alan! Now for a mate to appear or does he already have one?

Thanks Alan, this is great news.
Edit: Alan, can you clarify please .... is there a Lagoon 1 and another nest or is he back to Lagoon 4?
Blog ... A thank you!
Latest from Chris Wood is that 51(11) has moved from a nesting platform on Lagoon 4 to a nesting platform on Lagoon 1. Not far as the osprey flies.
Alan, are you able to indicate where this 'platform' is? Is it on Browns Island where the original translocation pens were sited? There were a number of perches on that shoreline which of course is immediately in front of the Egleton Centre.
For those unfamiliar a map of the reserve.
Birdies LG DU update.
Thanks Alan for the clarification. Interesting!
So am I right in thinking there are now 3 platforms/nests on the reserve - Manton Bay, Lagoon 1 and Lagoon 4?
Thanks for the blog link and for the map of the Reserve again Karen and Mike.
It would be great if there was another nesting pair on one of those other platforms. Hopefully Chris will report again on the situation there.
