  • Hi, all. I'm sorry I haven't been posting. I've been a little overwhelmed.

I thought I would let you all know that I've seen R.T. Hawk's pale mate several times this week. She's been roosting in the tall pine tree across from my front door, as close to the house as she can get, and she's hunting in my front yard! She gives me a strange little chirp whenever I go outdoors. Yesterday, she flew toward me and landed on the lowest limb. I'd forgotten how BIG she is up close. She's the biggest red-tailed hawk I've ever seen -- about the size of a small bald eagle. I don't know whether R.T. is roosting with her or not. I haven't seen him. We've had strange, record-breaking warmth at times, so the two hawks may be leaving to go to their nesting place back in the flood plain soon.

I wanted to say thank you to Eagle-Eye for keeping us updated on OG's condition. I know -- better than most -- how stressful and exhausting it is to care for someone during a long hospital stay. He's a good man. I'm sending OG as much strength and healing as I can muster. You're in my thoughts always, OG, and I wish you well, my friend.

I also wanted to send healing to Wendy and to dibnlib's mother. Nice to see bjane, and I'm sending you strength because I know your life is challenging. I'm also sending comfort and solace to Heather. I'm sorry to hear that Margo is in hospice, and I'm sending hugs to her. Best wishes and comfort to Brenda's family.

Hello to everyone else. I'll try to pop in more often.

  • Diane: Thanks for the very elegant start to the week!  We have a Coopers Hawk that has been hanging around our immediate neighborhood a lot more than usual - probably our fault for putting up yet another bird feeder.

dibnlib: Does sound like your Mom is doing better and will be well looked after. Easy for me to say, but try not to fret too much about it.  You can  only do so much.

Wendyb: Hope things are going more smoothly since the change in meds.

    Take care everyone.

Wow.  That's what I call a garden bird!  From the sound of it she clearly likes you  I hope R.T. is OK and that they have a successful season.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Good Morning, and thank you to Diane for starting us off again.

How exciting, having such a bird living in such close proximity!  You must be wondering what you'll see when you go out of the door! Do keep us updated on what happens next!

    Love your colourful picture!

  • My pic for today - not as colourful as Dianes!

"This is my first baby - I'm keeping her by me instead of in a cot!"

  • Hi everyone from a very sunny but cold Nairn. Lindy and Heather thanks for the news of OG and Margo. Wishing OG all the very best for her operation today and sending very special thoughts to Margo and her OH.

Thanks Diane and Linda for their lovely photos.

    Kind regards

    Jenny

  • Glad you have the sun, nairnred! It makes the cold more bearable. I'm just having a hot chocolate drink before we wrap ourselves up well and go out for a walk. I think it will be short!

Thinking especially of OG today, hope everything goes well and she is soon in recovery.

  • I was just looking back again and admiring Diane's lovely portrait: I was thinking how I'd love to be a striking looking bird like that, if I were a bird.... but then I thought "No, I can't be a bird - birds don't wear shoes!!" :-D

  • Just a brief update today.  OG was taken down to theatre at 09:15.

She was suitably drowsy and prepared for surgery when I saw and talked with her at 08:00 (when she was not having breakfast)(I had already had mine at home before coming into hospital to stay the day until she comes out of Recovery from theatre).

She might be put back into High Dependency temporarily before returning to Orthopaedic for rehabilitation.  All of that depends on what exactly the surgeon is able to achieve with her fracture.

Thanks again for all you thoughts and wishes.  I did read out quite a lot from last week's pages to her when she was fairly alert yesterday.  Cheers to all who know her.

  • Thank You so much for taking the time to keep us informed, Eagle-eye.  I will be thinking of you both throughout the day.

I hope you're looking after yourself at the moment, it's easy to forget you need your rest and in this cold weather, good warming food, too.
