Osprey at Hilton Head right now
This reserve is looking promising.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Thanks CLARE Interesting Fingers crossed
Pandy said:The fate of Chick #3, who fell from the nest yesterday, remains unknown. Maintenance personnel visited the nest tower this morning and found no signs of an osprey, dead or alive, no feathers. Here is a reference picture with a full side view of the tower; you can speculate on where he might have landed, falling from the camera side of the nest.
I have just read someone on FB say that chick no 3 is safe, that it has been seen by a maintenance worker, however the person who reported this doesn't know what will happen to the chick. I can't find anywhere that backs up this story, but I hope it's true.

Is this chick #3?

Tiger Signature
That may have been the first impression, or a misunderstanding. Later there was video confirmation of an osprey's body on the tower, with nesting material on top of it. :(

Yes, Tiger.
News from Caerlaverock
Good afternoon osprey watchers, apologies for the delay getting the ringing info to you, I was unable to attend the ringing of the chicks as I was away at meetings all of last week and have just caught up with Tony the FCS ranger. The chicks were ringed on the 10th of July
Blue PY5 Male, Blue PY6 Male, Blue PY7 Female. PY5 & PY7 have been fitted with satellite tags so we will be able to follow their migration south this autumn.
It looks like the chicks will be taking their maiden flights any day now.

200th chick for Tweed Valley Osprey Project
A typical scene at the Seili, Finland nest lately. Vasuri brings a huge fish to an empty nest, and one or both of the fledglings quickly returns for a meal. :)

This photo from 5 3 years ago shows how much better (and safer) the nest looked then. Time for some off-season human TLC, methinks
