    I love beach huts!

I thought it was you who did, but I wasn't quite certain.

Upsetting to hear on the News that so many primate species are threatened with possible extinction, including of course the gorilla population. It makes me thoroughly ashamed to be human that it could come to this, when it's been talked about for years.

There are far too many member of our specials who are far too selfish when it comes to the welfare of species other than our own.  I hate to think of where we'll be in another 100 years' time.

Good morning, all.  It's going to be another dry and sunny day here, though still very cold.  I'm wondering if there's an interesting bird about as our local crows are flaunting themselves on the treetops and shouting their heads off!

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Good morning, All.

Linda – that seemed a sudden urge to decorate this time; I hope it goes according to plan and the colours turn out as you expect.

Harelady – enjoy the new arrivals – they don’t stay babies very long!  Everyone’s grandchildren arriving make me feel so old, with our great-granddaughter now being over two months old, laughing and smiling in every photo.

Annette – Magpie rhyme is old, but had a resurgence here with a children’s television programme in the 1970s – I think – called “Magpie” which had it as its signature tune; I think it was ITV’s answer to Blue Peter – same sort of serendipitous collection of items likened to the contents of the nest of a “Thieving Magpie”.   Sorry, I’m rambling – just love making connections!

Clare - lovely views of Felixstowe Ferry yesterday; people-watching can be as much fun as bird-watching!

PatO – I’m not sure you would really want this mild weather – it’s very “misty-moisty” (another nursery rhyme and a Steeleye Span song!) and quite dark at times – a bit of seasonal frost and brightness would make a pleasant change!  No sunshine here for several days – but I think Moray, Angus and East Lothian are faring better.

AQ – sorry about your hot and humid weather and street party cancellation.  I hope the expected storms cleared the air again for a while.

Lynette – I hope Misty had a good report from the vet this morning and keeps stable with her meds.  Enjoy the meals for Burns Night and your Birthday – we aren’t going to a Burns Supper this year, but I shall make Balmoral Chicken at home.

Clare – do you think your Crows are getting ready for February 14th?  We already seem to have some signs of pairing up among our garden birds.

We are busy watching the workers – no sign of the builder yet again, but the tree loppers are well into the job – Willow done, just outside the study window, and moving round to Alder and Birch ( won’t see them so easily there!)  I drew a sketch of each tree, with red lines to show the cuts I wanted and they are finding them very useful.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Dear All

Just a short post to let you know I am feeling very poorly. Despite transfusions the bienefits are not as beneficial as they were. Reached a stage when OH had to wash me and get me dressed. The last couple of days marginally better but have to conserve the little energy I have.

A big thank you for all your thoughts.

Sorry but I do not have any news of Brenda at the moment.

    Take care.

    Margo x

  • Hello, MARGO.  Sorry to read your message, that you are now so poorly and getting little benefit from the transfusions.  Good to see you have had a couple of slightly better days, and felt able to write the above.  So thankful that you have that wonderful husband to look after you so well.  Love 'n' prayers.

  • I see that Margo has managed to post us a message:

Margo, I'm so sorry to see that you are struggling somewhat now, and that the transfusions are not helping like they used to. {{BIG HUGS}} to you, I shall be thinking of you daily.

  • Hi Margo

Sorry to read your latest post.  I think it's fair to say that all of us on here want you to be as comfortable as possible and to not waste what strength you still have.  I'd recommend, therefore, that you sit back and simply enjoy this post as I'm mainly sticking to captures:

I hope that seeing our wonderful birds can put a smile on your face.  The chick EJ is feeding is Millie.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • By the way we're now up to nine magpies in the trees!  That's a lot of kissing.

  • As Clare says Margo, just sit back, conserve your strength and enjoy posts like this. We are all thinking of you both.

  • MARGO- best love to you both. Always thinking about you xx

  • Those are beautiful captures of our dear Osprey pair, Clare.  Brings it all back straightaway, how much we all love these birds.

Heather:  I hope that you're keeping well and its not too cold there. We already have some bulbs up in the garden and some lovely yellow Hamamelis whatsit  (witch hazel to me!)   out. I love the smell when you bring it into the house.
