  • I have just checked on Scotlands pictures for 21st - 28th Oct and OH will be pleased to see that his pic of a mist at Muirton Basin is included

  • Hello all, not been on all week as nothing much happening down here.

Picked up on the name of buns.  Has anyone heard of Fat Rascals - we bought some at Betty's tearoom in Harrogate when we were on holiday.  The are like a posh rock cake - delicious.

Diane, see that you have been under the weather , do look after yourself and find that energy again soon.

Also Margo, not forgotten you even if I haven't posted. Look after yourself.

Friend has just had her penultimate chemo session but it is now really taking a toll on her body with aches and quite painful but she bounces back after about 10 days to a fortnight.

The builders are suppose to be starting work on my family home in Worsley next week - we shall believe that when it happens. Brother has been under quite some stress and has to virtually stay around 24/7 as there are theives around trying to take off with slates and any building material they can find. Not very pleasant.

Hi AQ, Dibnib and all.   Dinlib well done for 70 lenghths the other day. ~Afraid I only manage 10 to 14 lengths at a time.

Look after yourselves, thinking of you all.

  • Big thunderstorm around 3 a.m. this morning, with lots of lightning and rumbles - this storm came up from the south, which explains all the excitement. Next storm will come from up north (our usual winter pattern) and will be colder.  Not much rain from either but, hey, we typically don't get rain until November, so maybe it's a good omen.

Well, not to be outdone on the paczski/kitchener/bismark bun front, I'm offering up ebelskivers, which are small, jam-filled treats made in Solvang, a Danish-settled town up the road from us, complete with Danish flags and other symbols, not to mention store owners sporting traditional Danish costumes. It's popular with tourists. However, when it comes to yummies, my vote goes to kitcheners, anything with cream wins every time.

dibnlib: Lovely photo of Muirtown and cute squirrel too (I see all those photos are copyrighted). Had to Google cardioversion - hadn't hear of it before.  Wonder how it differs from inserting a pacemaker...  Anyway, hope it does the trick for OH.

Lynette: I could probably manage to choke down a Betty's Fat Rascal in between my kitcheners.  I gather there's a lot of theft of building/farming materials in country areas in the UK. Any point in getting security cameras/motion spotlights installed as a deterrent?

Lindybird: The house next door to us is on the market. Nice quiet tenants (widow and two teenage daughters) moved out last week and lots of work being done on it, so I'm also wondering who'll move in; also how much the house will sell for.  And the house across the road is having lot of work done, but knowing the landlord, it won't be anything special as it's a rental.

Diane: Looking forward to seeing you back here at some point with astronomical tidbits and updates on RTH, deer and your other neighbors. Do take care. Hugs to you!

Best thoughts also to Margo and her family...

I see the clocks go back in the UK this Sunday morning. An extra hour of sleep for you guys!

  • AQ, I am enjoying your travels. Fascinating.

Annette  Diane and AQ, I read your cake descriptions before breakfast, and like Lindy, it made me feel hungry. Had to make do with muesli and toast and marmalade.

I hope you live in a bungalow Annette, having spent the the day up ladders. Hope you have some useful rain after all that effort.

Nice to read your post, Diane, but as others have said, take your time. You have been through a lot.

  • Cute squirrel picture, Dibnlib. Hope all goes well for your OH.

Thinking of Margo, Heather, and others with health or other problems.

Hello to Lynette.Hope the work can get done on your house.

I haven't done anything more exciting today than go to the dentist. No treatment needed I am glad to say.

Oh! I did go to M&S with OH to advise on a new winter jacket. We  had coffee there (no cake, only the tiny biscuit they give with the drink) OH's sugar levels are a bit high at the moment. I will just read about those lovely cakes and pastries some of you are describing!

  • More pastry from me!  I've been baking sausage rolls and lemon curd tarts for our celebration of little Matthews birthday tomorrow (it was really today, but everyone is gathering together tomorrow).

Been too busy to post any more today, having gone shopping this morning and been baking this afternoon, and we are off to our Youngests in the morning as I said. But have read and enjoyed everyone's posts today.

  • Rosy: I had muesli this morning and toast and marmalade yesterday. Many houses here are single-storey so didn't have to climb too far. Rain didn't meet expectations, but then so little in life does!  :-))

Lindybird: How old is little Matthew? And how is Tomasz these days?

  • Good Morning, just quickly from me!

Annette - Matthew is just 2, and it doesn't seem possible that the time has gone so fast since he appeared. Tomasz is doing well at school - he will be 6 in December, but has a reading age of seven, so his parents are very pleased with how he's settled into school life. He goes to swimming lessons at weekends and has made many friends in his class at school.

    Must dash!

  • LINDY   nice to hear your family news. Hope you all have a good day tomorrow.

Off for a walk in the woods with a friend and her 2 dogs in 15 mins or so. OH is busy remortaring the patio slabs. Hard work so he is taking his time and doing it over a few days, then covering it over in case of rain.
