HAPPY NEW WEEK and HAPPY FULL MOON!

Hi, All.

It's been a long time since I've been able to start a new thread. I'm back at my home now. It should have been about a 45-mile trip home, but I got wildly lost on the prairie country roads near Lafayette. I thought I'd never make it home!!! I had to find my way back to the city and navigate the big interstate highways to finally get myself turned in the right direction. LOL

So far I haven't seen any squirrels, frogs, mice, or other critters in my house.

I will catch up with you all in the next couple of days. I know I owe folks emails, too.

Everyone have a great week!

  • Brenda: I'm so happy for your family!

  • Brenda - What wonderful news! I can imagine how excited you all are.

Sorry to hear the sad news of Margo's sister.

  • Successful escape yesterday, capturing 3 closed churches plus a few plaques/cairns/cemeteries where churches once were. It was quite a warm day 31 C with strong wind making hair blow everywhere. Many back roads, unsealed & dusty. We returned to Kapunda for late lunch before 1½ hour drive home. So much for power being cut yesterday, it wasn’t, no idea why or whether still to come.

    .

Annette – If you want to wander the roads, we went up highway passing through Riverton, Saddleworth, Manoora to Black Springs Lutheran church, back through Waterloo. Most other places we visited do not appear on StreetView eg Carlsruhe Lutheran, Pancharpoo, Kollyowha & Tothill Creek. In time I shall post pics, today the closed forlorn Tothill Ck Anglican church.

  • AQ: Interesting to see the difference in some of the aerial and street views, many of the latter in September 2014, which looked lovely and green and can't be too different from what it looks like now, but also May 2008 (Tothill Creek, where I didn't spot the church but did see the dirt roads).  Had Lodging on Google and spied a few B&Bs (not that Martindale Hall looked like any lodging I've stayed in!). Saw something that looked like grape vines in some small farms in Watervale.

Lynette: Good luck with the birthday feast. What have you been doing that you irritated your finger?  Was that a cortisone injection? They can make an amazing difference very quickly!

Brenda: Thanks for  passing on Margo's news.  What an incredibly sad time for them all.

I took a lot of unripe tangerines off our Satsuma tree before I went to Arizona and noticed this morning that I needed to cull some more. It's a newish tree and can't support all the fruit. Anyway, rolled out the BBQ this evening and noticed one of the two largest branches had torn off completely with the weight. So discouraging!! I ended up taking of about half the remaining fruit to save the rest of the branches, but I'm wondering how old this tree has to get to be able to support all that fruit!

Have a good Friday all.  I must organize a visit to the gym; haven't been for two weeks.

  • Annette - To find Tothill Ck church. Enter   Church Rd Tothill Creek     into Google maps, move to eastern end of road where it meets Tothill Belt Rd. Now go back west a wee way along Church Rd past ploughed paddock. Church is in corner where trees start. StreetView has sun glare , but you can just see building between trees. Road was just a dirt track with one slushy patch.
Martindale Hall’s future is in doubt. Some want to turn it into an expensive exclusive “wellness retreat”. National Trust want it kept for the people. Money will decide sadly.
Yes Watervale (not to be confused with drier Waterloo) is part of Clare Valley wine growing district. Aussie B&Bs are expensive, unlike those I saw in UK.

  • Good Morning, All.  Dry but chilly here, good job we have central heating!

Good that you got to have your day out, AQ - I presume your OH managed without you, as he had power after all!

  • Linda - OH went out for most of the day, having turned off all his "toys" by 8 am. We know the power was not cut off because stove clock was still merrily working.

    It's been a much cooler 15 C today with 10 mm rain.

  • LOL, AQ!   Bet he was annoyed!

We've been out to see the Commemorative Poppy display - we were so lucky as it was a bright sunny morning here, and we were told by others that last weekend it poured down, so was not so good.

Free entry, which pleased my OH!  Very impressive, with the red blooms pouring down from one of the high turrets on the Castle. Lots of people, but we made an effort to go today as from tomorrow, it will be half term hols for most of the children and so will be very busy. Pics when I get home again!

  • AQ: Got it! So exasperating sometimes to find a place somewhere in the world, then zoom in only to find Google Earth camera has thoughtlessly filmed into the sun!  :-))

Lindybird: Lucky day weather- and crowd-wise for Poppy display. Hope the good weather holds.

Diane posted news about a cyber attack on multiple websites here and in the UK on the Technical Test Thread. Thanks Diane. Seems no problem here right now....

  • Thanks, Annette. Here's that post. I forgot to put it on this thread, too.

This morning, there was a massive cyber attack against Internet infrastructure on the U.S. East Coast and in the Midwest, and I noticed on the attack map that some of the U.K. was also affected. It brought down much of the Internet and many major sites are still experiencing trouble. More info and a list of sites HERE.

UPDATE: It's happening again right now! This time, it's affecting the U.S. West Coast and much of Europe.
