I hope the lovely Tiger will forgive me for starting this thread but I want to post a link to some beautiful photos of an osprey in Japan. Hope you like them!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Oh forgiven no problem.
The pictures you publish are in the Daily Mail

As some will know there is big hurricane called Matthew in the Caribbean. It could be bad news for ospreys on migration.
In particular an old favourite Belle is in Cuba

I have been watching the weather updates for the hurricane too, and I have to say I am very worried for them all. It is not only the wind, but the rain. It will stir up with rivers and waters making them very muddy and murky, let alone the waves. Oh dear.
I will be waiting for Ospreytrax's update with fingers crossed.

Some years ago Rob Bierregaard lost four ospreys in one weekend. I hope this is not a repeat but I think that birds will be lost.
I am sure you are right Tiger. So sad. I hope we are proved wrong.
But I guess there will be lots of other migrating birds heading south thru the Caribbean too. They too have my concern.
There is a NEW BLOG including a bit of news about the progress of the satellite internet set up.

As it happens, I'm "monitoring" this courtesy of the GHOW cams at Skidaway Island (which I got all set up for here, when I heard the new cams were online after repairs to the almost-dead and battered pine tree - far too early, but the tree is popular with a lot of lovely birds)...
... including two ospreys in particular. Last night a juvie who had been spending some nights on the treetip perch got a very nasty shock - I wonder if if was the late-staying adult male who had previously treat the perch as his own for meals and surveying his domain?
EDIT - Anyone with half a brain and half an eye can see that it's the GHOW who did the kicking. Well, after all, it's the owls' breeding tree :o
Including slomo:
I haven't put this on Pandion FB page yet, TIGER - probably have more cred coming from you? ;-)
