WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 11 2016

Hallo all.  Off to eat pizza and drink wine. Back later.

  • We had a most beautiful sunset here last night - click on the photo to see more:

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Annette, Thank you for news of Diane's brother. Very sorry it is not good.

I know how difficult it is to diagnose this disease until  at an advanced stage.

It is good that he is now at a top hospital.

My thoughts are with Diane , her brother and his family.

  • My last bowls match of the season this afternoon. Forecast to be hot. Rain later.

Pat, I hope you managed to get some ends in between the showers!

I am also a fair weather bowler. I am not amongst the county stalwarts who play rain, hail or shine! (not that level, anyway).

    Lovely pics, Clare.

  • It's our last game of our tour in Torquay this afternoon.  Weather at the moment is overcast and mildish.  We are finding the greens down here a lot faster than at home!  Makes for some interesting shots.  I certainly wouldn't play socially in rain, but on Saturday we had no choice.  Never mind - runners-up isn't bad, with the weather gods against us!  Two more 'away' matches once we get home, and then indoors.  Not weather-dependent!!

  • ANNETTE - Thank you for the update about DIANE and her brother. I think about them, often.

  • Been out on errands.  Very close and 'muggy' here today, and it's given me a strange headachy feeling.

Just going to have a look at Clares pics....

  • Clare has posted some nice ones, there. Very peaceful looking!

(And I see you can't resist putting in some with gulls, too, Clare!)

  • I was lucky.  I just happened to get back from Minsmere just as the sun was going down....the light was glorious and I couldn't resist going to the Ferry.  I can never leave the gulls out as they're such an integral part of the Ferry, though I am doing more scenic shots as well.  They seem to be going down reasonably well!

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Morning all:

Rosy/Pat O.  Good luck with the bowls contests.

Clare: Thanks for pix of a soft and pretty sunset.  Seems like your current schedule is leaving time for all the important stuff (sunsets, gulls, etc.)  :-)

Took out another huge old lavender bush yesterday; not sure what, when, or even if I'll plant anything in its place. All depends on how much or IF we get any rain this winter. Our local lake is down to 7% of normal.  It's been a much cooler than normal summer, so we're all hoping that presages a cool and wet winter.  Lord knows the forecasters aren't having much luck. I remember when there was all the talk about El Nino last year, one of them said it could go north of us, which is exactly what it did...  Time will tell.

Off to favorite friendly grocery (Trader Joe's) this morning for some staples...

  • Thanks Annette for the excellent summary of Diane's Brother and his struggle. I hope he will be strong enough for chemo soon. Such an awful disease. Tell her we are all thinking of them and pray for the best. I have forgotten, is he married or divorced and are his children very young?
