Happy New Week! We’re back – Son is ok. He was facing a court appearance re an allegation against him, but in the end did not have to appear and is in the clear. Not a nice experience.
Been to LG and LotL – and got new long lens for camera! More tomorrow. Thanks for all the support – so pleased to be back here with you all!!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Brenda H: Good that it all went well - I always feel a funeral should be a celebration of the person's life, and not all gloom. After all the above remarks on Life & Death - I felt that one stood out which is George g's remark that we should 'do unto others as we would be done by' which has been one of my targets in life for many years, even though it originated in the Church teachings & I am no longer religious - but that's another story.
Good evening george g glad your BiL is coming home and SiL will get some help.
Glad you enjoyed your stay with son and wife. It must have made a welcome break for you.
Lovely pic of Forres.

Hope you have an enjoyable holiday, HeatherB, The ospreys will still be here when you return!
auntie: So glad your Mum is recovering well - it may seem slow at first but I'm sure with support she can regain strength. Hope you are enjoying your long holiday from work.
jsb: Thanks for link to BBC report on the Ospreys. I shall look at my photos tomorrow to see if any will help with the ID idea on your new thread.
Annette: Hope you get your furniture moved & get those carpets cleaned so that you can have a good tidy up.. then you can put your feet up when your OH goes away.
OG: Great pics and descriptions of your travels.
There was a great article on the evening TV for us in the North West tonight, about the Red Kites being released in the Grizedale Forest (Lake District). They are trying to repopulate the area with Red Kites, and had some film of the youngsters being delivered from Northamptonshire where they had been raised.
Many thanks to All of you who have enjoyed the poetry - its nice to know that its worth putting on the site!
Must go now & have glass of wine with Husband, before he leaves me for another woman who doesn't spend all her time with birds.
Evening, Monday – after what turned out a hot and dry day. Been very domestic, including a food shopping trip to Morrison’s in Dumfries for things we don’t get from Tesco’s – this meant we “had to” call at ice-cream farm for milkshake! Read in their browsing copy of “Good Housekeeping” that Cupcakes are to be superseded in the UK by Whoopie Pies – so then had to google them – interesting origin in Amish history. Ironed first load of clothes from holiday already this evening.
Margobird – so sorry about Boris. I hope you don’t think I’m being insensitive, but had to laugh at myself: when I read “OH gutted …” I totally missed the point and thought he gutted the fish! I’m so sorry; I do try to be serious, and I hope you don’t lose any more of your fish.
Heather, Dibnlib and Others – a lot of discussion about family relationships and bereavement today. I was an “only child”, so seeing our children grow up has been a revelation to me – and I notice that when there is a problem, then they are always there for one another, even if they seem further apart between times.
Annette – I hope the carpet cleaning meets your target – but watch out for Lightning when the other carpets are clean!!
GeorgeG – so pleased to read that your BiL is getting home from hospital, and that help has been arranged. Lovely picture of gardens in Forres. I always put on weight when we are away from home – last week gained 2 whole Kg; this is partly due to the travelling, and I lost the first Kg in just 24 hours, but I don’t think I’ll get the rest off before we set off again this Friday!
BrendaH – good to hear that the funeral was as you describe.
Lindybird – do you remember “Mrs Do As You Would Be Done By” in Charles Kingsley’s “The Water Babies?” – or am I showing my age again? Mine was an illustrated edition, and she was so beautiful – unlike “Mrs Be Done By As You Did”!
I have some pictures of the LotL Ospreys (already posted one of Marge flying on the LotL thread) but I need to sort the best ones – it was the first time of using the big lens. But have some of other wildlife there. Here are two of a Woodpecker – one a better portrait, but other shows him pecking!
LINDA help please want to read this new poem of yours as I always enjoy them so much. I know you said community centre then poetry but I don't really know where to start.
Dibnlib - read your post, so decided to follow path to Lindy's poem while writing it down for you - then found you there - well done! She is so gifted with words.
Another LotL inhabitant:
Heather - A good thing your brother doesn't live in Aussieland. We are not permitted to bring in food that may carry disease. Customs will confiscate & destroy, especially cheese, salami, etc . They did permit the gingerbread from Grasmere I brought back. It was the time of the foot&mouth scare and my sneakers were washed in disinfectant. (Did they have to splash the insides, ugh.)
Annette - We discovered on our first trip overseas that Himself likes guided tours & cities, while I like pottering around in obscure villages. So we now take separate holidays. I hire a car and can go at my own pace. If I want to spend an hour drooling in an ancient church soaking up the atmosphere, there is no one huffing & puffing in the background.
OG, DjoanS & BrendaH - Sorry, the expert has spoken (or emailed). The "funny duck" is a feral duck, probably a domestic escapee or released by former owners. Here are the two.
And the king of the castle
