Happy New Week! We’re back – Son is ok. He was facing a court appearance re an allegation against him, but in the end did not have to appear and is in the clear. Not a nice experience.
Been to LG and LotL – and got new long lens for camera! More tomorrow. Thanks for all the support – so pleased to be back here with you all!!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Hi Cathie, I think that's one of the things we like on here, someone says something and those that don't know google it and we all learn lots of new things! You'll see us all googling elephant recipes next LOL
Terry in Cumbria
Annette - just to prove I'm having as much trouble as you with MWSnap (I nearly said I'm as useless as you, but that sounded rather rude LOL), I've just managed to snap from auntie's cam, but I can't get one to stay still from LG. It's really weird because I managed it before.
BrendaH – sounds like strong wind where you are – did your electricity get cut off? Tiny twigs and leaves blowing around here, but nothing major – wanted to say “twiglets” but that sounds like something out of “Abigail’s Party” – so 60s!
Dibnlib – hope all is well with Dillon tomorrow at the vet’s.
Cathie – how exciting for you, finding your way around.
TerryM – I love the way we all learn together by sharing what we find out (a suggestion for cutting the cost of education? I think not!) and let’s all carry on being useless, losing the plot, muddling our words, forgetting what we wanted to say etc etc – it’s all part of the entertainment!
“See” you all again next week. Be nice to each other (whose catch-phrase was that?). Stay well and enjoy the Ospreys.
Lindybird - Love your workplace rules. I hope you don't mind, I have added them to my list.
BrendaH - When we first went shopping for our new house many years ago, our list was furniture for the bedroom, for the dining room, for the lounge room, etc. After a long morning traipsing around shops we came home with . . . 2 candles in holders !!!!!!!
Diane - Thank you for translations. It is amazing in this age of TV, etc, how there are still regional differences. Vive la difference.
Welcome Quietwoman & Cathie & other newbies I have missed. We may have all "lost the plot" but we are also a very caring bunch of people. Very educational too (and not just about ospreys. LOL)
There are two rules to success in life: 1) Never give out all the information.
Evening all: Well this is very nice. Have had two glasses of wine and am sitting on the patio with my laptop. Can't read the screen as well as in doors, but it's so lovely out here (notwithstanding cat seems to think I'm out here to pay all kinds of attention to her!).
dnblib: Snoods? Sound like something out of a Harry Potter tale.. Harvey sounds like a sweetie - I bet he brought a lot of smiles with his antics in the duck pond.
Lindybird: Hope you helped your friend spend all kinds of dough. We weren't able to open windows at my last two places of work - upset the a/c. Even then, there were people for whom it was always not cold enough or too cold. Is that your house in the background of the clematis photo - looks very impressive!
Quietwoman: Sad about your dog. I know it was recent, but there must be another dog out there who could really use a good home.
Brenda: I bought a dress for myself two years ago that needs just the right necklace, which of course I don't have and haven't had time to shop for. Have had no trouble buying bedding though.... Do hope "summer" hasn't fled yet.
Margobird: I bought a T-shirt at an outlet store today for $7.99 - a nice label too. I don't think my OH realizes how lucky he is!
Diane: Thanks for the mini-dictionary explaining all those strange items of clothing the UK folks are wearing! :-) I did know strewth though. Very interesting about St. Swithins and the Jet Stream.
OG. What!? The Ash Grove not "in" anymore. :-(( Well, everybody knows The Archers were for real - Mrs. Dale's Diary too, right? :-))
Cathie: Oh I know Nascot Street well - the hardware store that was on Langley Road across from Denmark Street was still there when I went back two years ago. FYI, I used to live at #33. Oh my. Please say hallo next time you walk by. I actually knocked on the door then and the very nice owner gave me a tour, including the cellar, which used to be black and full of coal when I lived there (I was convinced there were skeletons and ghosts there too). She'd turned it into a work space, put in some sort of skylight and painted it all white. Amazing. I remember going down there with a candle and copper wiring or something to fix the fuses when they used to blow.) Oh do stop into the pub and have a drink for me too! :-) Rickmansworth used to be a pretty little town; not sure if that's still the case. Went to St. Joan of Arc (girls' grammar) school back then. Also Amersham used to be nice. My cousin (Dennis Buckley) lived in Johannesberg (sp?); think he's back in either Brussels or the Uk now.
Djoan: Thanks for letting us know about happy ending for owlet.
TerryM: All the dances used to be at the Town Hall - in my day (or rather my sister's day - she's a bit older) it was big bands. Re MWSnap - trust me - nobody is as 'useless" as me. Actually, I'm very proud that I managed to capture an LOTL image and post it on the thread the other night, but still just get black box when I try LG, regardless of helpful suggestions from other folks.
AQ: Dare we ask what your OH is going to wear for the big events? Something from the 1970s perchance? Two rules to success? You tease!!
Had nice morning with daughter; grandson has broken up with girlfriend; took more stuff to charity shops; picked up stuff from charity shop I dropped stuff of at yesterday because OH wasn't listening to me when I asked him if he wanted any of the stuff. He didn't say yes, so I took it and he woke up this morning with some bright idea about putting framing some of the stuff and hanging it. Argggh! Then went to gym and to the Rose Garden where I took care of my roses and then snuck over to another, sorely neglected bed to tidy it up a bit. Take out for dinner.
OK. So sorry for long post! Now must have yet another shower and go see what's happening at LG and LOTL. (Don't even have time to read the Daily Update page these days - assume someone will let me know when they migrate!) :-))
Hugs to all and take care.
Annette - Himself checked his collection yesterday for a tie that won't clash with my pink. So far he has settled on a grey. That's for Wedding2. It seems likely that he will be wearing a dinner suit (bow tie & stuff) for Wedding 1 as Fsil1 has dreams of dressing up. I don't like bow ties but who is asking me!!! I have a pile of stuff for charity as I had to clear a space in wardrobe. <sigh> Another thing to do.

I hope everyone knew that I was teasing in my early post (about everyone "talking funny"). :-) I should watch what I say because new people won't know that I'm joking. I get silly late at night. LOL I actually love the variations in language and expression here, and I especially love learning about the lore, traditions, land, and history of everyone's home regions.
AQ: I thought about you last night. I watched a program about kangaroos in eastern Australia. A large group of them inhabit a golf course every year to mate and rear young. I was totally amazed at the kangaroo reproductive system. Apparently, a female can have one baby growing in the pouch, while another fertilized egg is held in stasis in the uterus, so the roos can be perpetually pregnant. They really are miracles of evolution.
I loved your two rules to success in life. :-)
Brenda H: Oh, dear. That gale sounds like a bad one. Glad you're okay. We had lightening storms here today, too, because of the high heat. But we didn't have much wind. That's dangerous. I hope St. Swithin's Day doesn't apply to us, because I don't want 40 days of this weather. :-)
Auntie: I know that those temps you are experiencing must feel really hot to you, when your body is accustomed to cooler weather. I am soooo looking forward to autumn. Oh, and you speak English way better than I speak Finnish. :-) Seriously, you do very, very well with our difficult language.
Cathie: Such a lovely picture of your little squirrel! Adorable.
Terry M: Your Finland osps were gorgeous. Thanks for the Astronomy pic links. I often forget to trundle over there to look at the latest, but I enjoy them. Wish I could have seen the eclipse.
Annette: Thanks for telling me the brand on your TV. I was interested because I knew that you had done a lot of research and comparison. It sounds terrific. Send me one, please. LOL
I've enjoyed all of the wonderful photos by Lindybird, DjoanS, ChrisyB, and OG.
DjoanS: My Dad liked that picture of the Irish establishment called "Jimmy's" in your photo. My Dad's name is James, and the family calls him Jimmy. He decided that the place in the photo was his pub. LOL I loved the bright colors in that area. I don't know why we humans always feel that we must subject ourselves to dismal colors. One doesn't need to be gaudy, but a full spectrum of color is cheerful!
By the way, everyone, I wrote a check today, and for the date, I entered, "July 15, 2009." Seriously. 2009? That surely qualifies me to join the "Lost the Plot Club".
Diane - Did that program tell/show how after birth the kangaroo joey crawls up into mother's pouch? Such a long journey for a wee thing (size of a cherry), all by instinct. The animal world is amazing. Hey, don't worry about dates, I am still hesitating when I need to write a date, then I think it can't be 2010 already.
AQ: You must be relieved now you've got your m-i-l outfits all organized. When are the big days? Where are the couples going for their honeymoons?
