Weekly Chat Sunday July 11th

Happy New Week!  We’re back – Son is ok.  He was facing a court appearance re an allegation against him, but in the end did not have to appear and is in the clear.  Not a nice experience.

Been to LG and LotL – and got new long lens for camera!  More tomorrow.  Thanks for all the support – so pleased to be back here with you all!!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Good Morning All. Just watched the weather forecast where the forecaster said that our overnight rain had now gone through, so I guess that there is somebody sitting on our roof with a hosepipe and I stupidly thought it was still raining.

OG; lovely photographs. Always love to see a woodpecker, but did get woken the other morning by a young one who was practising on our fence, nearest our bedroom. Just Googled Whoopie Pies and find that even Sainsbury's have recipes on line. I had no idea what they were before I looked.

AQ, Sorry about the wrong ID of your duck. Lovely photographs of the maned ducks.

I will have to continue later as OH is waiting to go out.

  • original goldfinch have just reached your post and I am laughing my head off at my statement about "OH was gutted", well spotted I didn't give it a thought when I typed that.  That will amuse me all day.  Lovely pic of the woodpeckers as well.

    Margobird

  • Good morning Lindybird and Brenda H.  It looks as though a few of us are going to be out for part of the day, so am hoping if there is to be a take off today they wait until we are home again.

    Margobird

  • Just read your poem in that poetry corner Lindybird or should I address you as Mother of a Jedi :) - what a beautiful, beautiful poem!!!

Have a good day all, can't stay long for now but will be back in the evening

  • Can you relay that info to the birds, margobird? - & ask them to wait until we're back?   ; - )

I also noted the 'gutted' remark, myself, but was much too polite to say so!!!!!

  • Thanks auntie -   He is certainly some kind of a 'one off' person, my eldest!  He shares my sense of humour which is a wide one.  Have a good day, yourself.

  • Lindybird I will have  a quitet chat with them before I go out and remind them they have an adoring public that have to go out sometimes so could they please wait for us.  The "gutted" comment is going to have me smiling all day.

    Margobird

  • Just to let all Hope and Lily fans know they have been reunited after 6 weeks.  Lily is lactating again and has been nursing Hope and feeding her and they have slept together.  Would be wonderful it is stays this way.  Wonderful video  link as follows:-

    Margobird

  • Morning all, I should be mowing grass (here and next door) while it's fine, as rain forecast for the rest of my week off, according to OH. But, hey, it's much more interesting on here!

AQ, I was going to say Muscovy ducks too the other day, but I'd forgotten the name by the time I came to post (LOL, and I'm only 55!) but I won't now you have an expert opinion that it's something else. We have two Muscovy ducks, identified by the extra wattle-type pink bits on the face, but they are black and white.  We used to have two lavender ones (greyish and less facial marking), I do love a boiled duck egg for breakfast.

OG, I thought the next words after Margobird's "gutted" were going to be "the fish" too.  I'm pleased to see she was amused, I didn't like to say myself.  Love the woodpecker pic. I had a copy the the Waterbabies at a grandmother's house and read it every time we went there.

Yesterday I spent two hours at the upper viewpoint at Bassenthwaite.  We were treated to a beautiful fly-round by No-ring and he even hovered over the lake looking for a fish, then he disappeared for an hour. When he returned he had a fish but he went into the trees to eat some of it, then after about 20 minutes he brought the remainder to the nest.  Mrs No-ring and the chicks were very quiet, not screeching, like a certain family we know.  The chicks were wingercising while they waited but not very vigorously.  On the way down I called in at the lower viewpoint (NOT a viewpoint of the nest, just the lake shore). They have feeders and we saw squirrels, young woodpecker, siskins and babies, loads of tits, chaffinches.  I said hello to everyone on the way up or down in case it was Alan or Chrisy.

Dibnlib - not sure about an idiot's guide to scanning, it was the first time I'd done it myself and haven't done it since! I would have to work it out again, can anyone help please?  I know once you've scanned a pic you save it into Photoshop or whatever, then it's just the same as if you're working with a digital photo. I just can't remember how to scan rather than copy, it might be a different button on the printer....doh! Sorry for being technically useless!

Lindybird, will you put the poems on here as well as Poetry corner?  Hint to anyone wanting to go somewhere but not able to find it....eg Lindy's poem - just click on her name, scroll down to what she's been doing, and click on the Poetry Corner, or whatever it is you are looking for.

  • Oh Margo, thanks for the Lily and Hope news, so pleased for them. I was wondering how Hope would cope in the winter without guidance, maybe they'll stay together now.
