  • Morning, All:   Sunny and dry (again!) here. We could do with some rain on the garden now, things are beginning to look droopy.

Welcome Cathie -  nice to see you on here.

Thanks to DjoanS for the lovely owlets picture - so cute.  Margobird:  What a shame your concert was cancelled, but at least you may be able to go when it is reorganised.  Annette:   Good luck with the new TV - it always takes us about a week to work out what all the remote buttons do, but I'm sure you will enjoy it now its up and running at last.  OG:   Good to hear that the problems with your son are now sorted - such a worrying time for you all. You must have felt so helpless as at a distance, you are restricted to phone calls only. Life can now get back to normality, though I doubt if you will forget the last few days in a hurry.

My elderly neighbour is still in the Hospital, its been 2 weeks now so she must be very much itching to get home again - her relatives are trying to get her to come to a local Cottage Hospital for a week or two before she attempts to manage on her own at home. Places there are limited though, and there is no space at the moment. Apparently she is predictably resisting all help, & wants to be independant. My OH has been watering her garden tubs, and the tomato plants, and another neighbour seeing to the post left on the mat etc. The neighbour who first saw her lying on the ground is relaying news from the relatives & Hospital, so all is being done to help that we can.

We are off out to take Dog for a walk, so expect to miss this morning's fledge as there is no doubt that #1 at least, is raring to go!  Have a Good Sunday, All.

  • Hi Everyone. I haven't posted here before, although I do read most of them. Heaved a sigh of relief for OG's son.

I just felt I had to say a word for Roy Dennis. As far as I know, he isn't actually employed by the RSPB. He set up the Highland Foundation for Wildlife, has written books on raptors, presented films for the BBC and has been a major supporter of Scotland and  it's wildlife. In fact it's probably safe to say that Scotland has benefitted from a lot of his activities. He would probably be the first to say that he, too,  has benefitted from all his work and if that includes financially, so what. He doesn't clock on at 9.00 am and off at 5.00pm.

I don't suppose Forres reads these blogs but I felt that the LG osprey nest site wasn't the place for it.......having got that off my chest I'm better now !!!

The mind is like a parachute, it doesn't work if it's not open.

  • Glad you found somewhere to get it off your chest, quietwoman!   Nice to have you on here, do pop in again to chat, we love to have more people join us, especially those as crazy about the ospreys as we all are!

ps.  Is that your lovely dog on your avatar?

  • Welcome Cathie (I used to live in West Herts) and quietwoman (have read your sensible postings on the main blog) and welcome back OG, thank goodness your son's problem disappeared, let's hope it has gone completely.

Annette, do you remember I thought I had the MWSnap sorted out and I put some pics on to prove it? Well now I'm back to the black screen, same as you, so I need to fiddle around some more and try to remember what I did!  Have you noticed that you (or I at any rate) can drag the Snap screen around until the black part is over the cam view, just like a hole and you can see it still moving underneath (not sure if that makes sense...)?  I click to take the pic and it whizzes away but doesn't fix it.  I'll try with the stills cam, like Lindybird.

  • Good morning quietwoman and welcome.  I agree with all you have said and can't believe that there are a few really negative people amongst.  Without Roy Dennis' work we would know very little about ospreys and i applaud him for the all good work he has done over the years and as you say it is not a 9 - 5 occupation.  I should imagine he has been tearing about all over the place in the last week or so.

  • DJOAN    don't think the red squirrel story was in the Scottish Mail-mores the pity.

OG   your family has obviously been through the mill, so glad the end result was positive.

off now for coffee, ok yes and cake or snack too

  • Morning all!

OG - So glad to hear good news about your son, he must have so appreciated family support at what will have been a very difficult time for all of you.

Diane - So your avatar is very appropriate!

Margobird -What a pity about the concert, but hope the rest of your planned shows go according to plan. Also, about leaving the HA switched on, it has been known here---

I got very involved in my book last evening, went to bed early just to read and didn't get back to the screen, OH switched off for me when he came up to bed. So glad I haven't missed a fledge - well I don't think so!!

    Happy Watching, folk

  • Richard Bell's BRITAIN (published 1981)

While on holiday in the Cotswolds recently, I found this publication in an old fashioned, 2nd hand book store.  There's a section on Loch Garten, where Richard Bell says he regularly worked as a warden.

It's a wonderfully illustrated book on the author's wanderings through Britain, showing the flora & fauna of the different areas.

What I need to know is, bearing in mind that the book is almost 30 years, is this 'Our Richard'.?

    Cheers, Cathie

  • Cathie - Our Richard is Richard Thaxton - I don't know how old he is though ;-)

  • Good afternoon HeatherB and it was a shame about the show but their priorities were right and I think everyone was sympathetic and understanding.  We went for a drive round some beautiful countryside and stopped and had one drink at a very nice pub so the evening was not lost really.

Today we have been to a local bowing club on the cliff top for a Sunday roast.  First time we have been there and very inpressed with the quality.  An excellent 2 course meal and coffee for £8.95 each so I think a bargain.  Saved me cooking this evening which I am grateful for as my kitchen gets extremely warm in the afternoon with the sun streaming through.

I am gad I am not alone in not switching HA off when I go to bed but I don't think it will happen again.  Owned up to OH today.  Good job the batteries and associated bits and pieces are free.
