AUGUST sneaked up on me, but apparently no one noticed.
August is my least favorite month, considering the too hot, too humid weather here in southwest Ohio.
In the osprey world, AUGUST is the month for all our ospreys to start their migrations. Willow and Rowan will be starting their long journey to Africa which will be their home for the next two years. They have not been tagged, so we have no way of following their progress or lack thereof. GOOD LUCK to them as they start this long difficult journey, to all the other juveniles we are following, as well as best wishes for their parents and all ospreys known or unknown.
I was informed on Facebook that LG sits at the foot of The Cairngorms which regularly see hurricane force winds, so Lock Garten can be "as wild as any ocean".
Good morning all. June that looks like a very stormy loch !I can believe how lochs can be stormy through experience. We went to Lake Garda in Italy some time ago and experienced such stormy waters they were unable to dock and drop people off :) Terrifying! They were only able to dock at one place and drop all off
From Facebook
515 nests! Sounds like a lot to me for such a small state.
Its good to see W7 improving by the day and needs to be perfect to survive.
Still stuck out here but hope to get home in a few days to have a look at the last ospreys - there will be plenty about late August to September.
At least I will get my fair share of ospreys in US soon.
AHH, Is that trip to Florida coming up soon?
Seems this trip is taking longer than expected. Hope otherwise it is a pleasant and interesting experience for you.
So far as I know all LG ospreys are still here. I haven't heard anything to the contrary, either on the main blog or when I occasionally look in on DU.
Weren't Rowan and Willow the first to be hatched? If so, it is reasonable to expect they would be among the first to leave us.
I've been trying to keep up to date and all are present at all nests I believe.
And certainly Monty has been keeping Blue 24 very cosy. Glesni has not been seen since Friday so I imagine she has left us so Monty went cosy with his girlfriend. Same story next year Me Thinks - its like a good novel.
Yes this trip is taking longer than it should - I have only ever just passed through South Korea in the past so am learning the culture and very pleasant people indeed.
Yes Florida up soon - a big itinerary for nearly 2 months - Sarasota - Back to my Florida home for a few weeks then Naples and The Keys and back to our home in Lake Buena Vista before coming home. Plenty of ospreys stay around Sanibel and Captiva.
June, That is an astonishing and almost unbelievable number of Ospreys present in Connecticut, but wonderful if true! Though I've read that North American Ospreys are more tolerant of nesting near each other than those over here in Britain and presumably the rest of Europe, too. If true, that would make that large number over there more believable.
Keith, Have a great time in Florida. If you are going this month or next I imagine it will be very hot there. Probably still hot there in October as well. Is the trip all holiday or partly work as well?
Kind regards, Ann
Keith, I expect you and Susan are celebrating this one. CONGRATULATIONS to GB, Scotland, Dunblane and to you and Susan.
