AUGUST sneaked up on me, but apparently no one noticed.
August is my least favorite month, considering the too hot, too humid weather here in southwest Ohio.
In the osprey world, AUGUST is the month for all our ospreys to start their migrations. Willow and Rowan will be starting their long journey to Africa which will be their home for the next two years. They have not been tagged, so we have no way of following their progress or lack thereof. GOOD LUCK to them as they start this long difficult journey, to all the other juveniles we are following, as well as best wishes for their parents and all ospreys known or unknown.
Paul A, from what I hear here on the Gabfest BBC has many very interesting and informative nature programs and excellent program hosts. Some of the programs I understand are very close to our hearts, ie ospreys that we know and love or areas that we follow.
I'm glad that you are enjoying, and again, thanks for bringing them here to the Gabfest. Any reporting and/or discussion of any of these programs is always very much appreciated here - - especially discussion.
A mama bear and two cubs have just come down to the river from the woods. all three are well in view, with one cub behind the mama. At 8:30 pm there in Alaska, (11:30 here in Ohio) I expect evening shadows are starting to settle in.
Osprey at Hog Island, Maine, USA. What a clear, sharp night picture they have. If I could get a picture like this at LG I might be able to tell Willow and Rowan apart.
I see that once again Keith has visited the Gabfest and once again has quietly come and gone.
KEITH, I hope you had a restful weekend and that all is going well for you.
The best I can figure it, Korea is "around the clock plus one" from Ohio. That is, it is now 11:45 AM Sunday in Ohio, so it is 11:45 PM in Korea, plus one or 12:45 AM midnight Monday.
Hope you have some stories and pictures for us when you get back - since we're not getting any while you're gone.
Good evening all. I watched the program Paul A mentioned but only because OH had kindly recorded it for me! I just caught the last bit as I came home from work! Thank goodness he did because it was beautifully photographed and showed wonderful footage of ospreys! I forgot completely about it :) Thankyou Paul A for the reminder!
Hi Willow
.I was watching one of the 2 nest cams in Maine. All three juveniles were chirping consistently. Then While I was processing the snippit, Mom or Dad flew in with the desired fish. I could hear the ruckus but of course couldn't see. I watched him away just as I switched back to live cam.
Just exploring the bear link cams. It is difficult to tell what is actually alive this minute and what is recorded, but I think these are live or I wouldn't bother.
Good morning June and all. Love the capture of the ospreys above the sail boats in the sea.
Lovely to see the young ospreys doing so well. Their parents do a really good job in caring for these hugely demanding children :)
Still wonder what happened to Kielders YO from nest 1a. It tragically looks like she came to grief when she fledged. A very dangerous time for them
