Happy New Week and Happy Full Moon on Tuesday!
LINDY - Enjoy the sunshine! I haven't had Pimms for ages but remember it as being an ideal summer drink. Looking forward to seeing the Christening pics.
It is raining here. OH has gone to the bowling green but will probably just have a coffee and chat with the 'boys'. They do enjoy putting the world to right and I normally get the feedback over lunch.
Eldest son in law was asking my OH about a fishing trip, when he was here yesterday. It involves a week up in Durness, staying at a local hotel. OH was initially keen but having slept on it says that five consecutive days of fishing might be too much for him. It is apparently bank fishing, though, not wading, so potentially 'doable' for him. We shall see. An option is for me to go with him and keep him company on the days he might take off, or just fish for half the day. But it is a boy's trip, three of them if OH goes. He doesn't know the other two and does struggle with his hearing when not in his comfort zone. That means anywhere with a lot of background noise or people with soft voices. Plus, I'm sure that the other two wouldn't want me at their evening meals! No doubt that is another lunchtime talk topic for us today.
Son in law is planning a day out for a Canadian girl who is studying physiotherapy in Aberdeen. She is on placement in Inverness at present. A member of my 'Canadian family' asked us if we could perhaps get in touch with her while she is here. So, eldest daughter and son in law will take her for a day out in the Highlands in August. He is busy thinking about somewhere off the usual tourist track, with some history attached. He is really interested in that sort of thing so she will be well looked after. They will come home here for a meal, afterwards.
DIANE - I looked up the CNN link. Keep cool, please! Glad that your computer if fixed and also that your project is well underway.
No real news about youngest SiL and his job. It looks if is his company will secure a new contract, though, so fingers crossed that this is correct ,which would mean that SiL will have a job. Meanwhile he is applying for other jobs. There is more to it, a bit of the 'old boy' network at play but I don't want to go into details on here.
PS - I think that OG and EE will be busy getting ready for the re-decoration of J's room. Hope that he will enjoy his week with his sisters.
BRENDA - missing you on here. Do hope that your back is getting better.
MARGO - also thinking about you and your OH.
It's sunny and warm, here. Yesterday we packed hastily and didn't realise that we had left behind a small bucket of lovely home grown potatoes, so today we went forth to look for some. This involved going down the Llyn Peninsula and driving into cloud covered mountainous - we were amazed at how quickly the weather and the skies changed! Came home with some nice spuds, though, plus farm eggs and a slice each of home baked cake! Back now in the sunshine and have been weeding the pretty flowerbed opposite to us - we told the site owners that we would be responsible for it if we could plant a few extra things.
Heather - I see that your house is still the hub for the family.... how nice. I agree that your OH might find it difficult if he can't cope with five whole days away. Perhaps you could drive over to join the others for just one day?
Brenda - You've not been posting so it's worrying that you might still be suffering with your back somewhat. Hope I'm guessing wrong, and you're just busy.
Love to dear Margo & her OH.
LINDY - Unfortunately, I have the bigger table LOL. Although eldest daughter is planning a buffet at her home for 16 persons next Saturday, Katie's 14th birthday. For sit down meals it has to be here. I have warned them all, though, that as time goes by they will be doing even more of the cooking. They can rent my dining room :-))
Run out of time today! Prepared J room and moved us in, emptied our room, filled a few screwholes etc - ready for OH to start tomorrow by painting ceiling. I helped when I could, mainly by doing some of the jobs he would normally do - until my legs begged for mercy! This was all after lunch at OTB and shopping in Asda!
J was quite late setting off this morning, but arrived safely at Dau#1 during the afternoon. Yesterday of all days he "found" an interesting cottage to rent the other side of town! He has expressed his interest by email, and we have been deputed to have a viewing tomorrow. If he gets it and moves out, rushing into our decorating this week will have been unnecessary, but we decided to go ahead, as it may not happen for him. I think all three of us are ready for him to move out, but this one would be nicely near to us, and wee cottages with parking space don't often come vacant.
Must get to bed - take care, all.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Evening all: Was at the Rescue center this morning for four hours, was planning three only. Two calls came in the first 2 hours 50 minutes and then all kinds of critters in trouble generated 6 phone calls in 5 minutes, which kept me there another hour. We had a dead seal (no rush there); a pigeon trapped in a light fixture at a shopping center, a cormorant in distress (lots of complicated directions to that one and just after I'd finished entering all the info in the log the lady called back to say it had flown off!). A baby possum came next, followed by a dove, a finch, and something else. I had to make multiple phone calls to various agencies/rescue volunteers before I got them all sorted. I was a bit taken aback to find the volunteer coordinator who'd "hired" me wasn't in the office today, so I felt a bit adrift in coming up with solutions. Silly me expected to have someone who actually knew the ropes to be around for my first day.... We'll see how it goes.
The Republican Convention has started. Speakers so far include a soap opera star (who apparently was/is also a model for gentlemen's underwear or something like that). I've fled to my room. Maybe I can watch Casablanca or something for the 99th time.
Diane: Good you got your computer organized; hope the freelance project goes smoothly.
AQ: Your coffee/cake and lunch sounded like a fun time. Good for you to be out and about again.
Diane/dibnlib: How nice to be 60! :-)) Thanks for the info on Windows 10; no Enterprise versions at this house.
Lindybird: All "decanted to the Village Hall."? Oh my, how very intoxicating. I'm sure you meant decamped. :-)) Seriously, sounds like a lovely event.
Heather: Can't imagine fishing would provide a lot of noisy background for your OH to deal with; still..... Let us know what he decides. Fingers crossed indeed that SiL might be able to stay on at the job.
OG: Good luck with the decorating - and with J's interest in the cottage. Let us know what you think...
Have a good Tuesday everyone.
Restless night with sore knee, too dozey to get up to fetch pain relief. I’ve not needed pain stuff for a few days & perhaps I overdid it yesterday. Doesn’t cake work as well as panadol? Overcast warmish day. I’ve been sewing up more of the clown bits & pieces. Nice to see it coming together but an awful lot of bits still waiting. A brief exploratory trip found a handful of spinach leaves in "vegie" patch for tea. Add them to other veg & pork chop baked in oven guessing what time OH will return from nanny duty.
Good Morning - sun is up already today, on what is promised to be the hottest day this year. Replies to your (interesting) posts later - forgot to charge my tablet, and plus we have lots to do before it gets too hot this morning! Back later......
Good morning everyone -
Sun up here too, LINDY! OH may go to the golf firing range with his son, I will potter about outside, sweeping up etc.
OG - I think that maybe you will supplying EE with cooling drinks, today! Looking forward to reading about the cottage.
AQ - Sorry about the overdone knee.. Take care.
ANNETTE - talk about being dropped in to the deep end! However, the absent lady must have been impressed with you on your induction day :-)
More about cars - ours is eleven years old and OH is toying with the idea of getting a smaller one. He likes the car he has but it is quite long and he struggles these days when reversing into our driveway which is not wide. He won't put it in the other way, keeps telling me it is ?illegal? to reverse out on to a main road. I don't drive, so have no idea. Sometimes there are so many cars and vans parked on our street that visibility is impaired when coming out of and going into our own driveway. The penalties for living near town, I suppose. He and his late wife bought this house because it is within walking distance to town and has a bus stop almost opposite. It was to be their retirement 'forever' home for the time when they would have to give up driving.
Enough of my rambling. I guess it will be quiet on here again today, everyone busy or enjoying the sunshine.
Have a good day.
Been out to slate showroom/shop/exhibition to look at and order a new number for next to our front door at home. The one we have is metal with the number picked out in gold paint and the whole thing is peeling off. Ordered a smart square block of slate which will be ready when we come back here next time. Came back already feeling hot, to clean around a bit here ready for our Youngest and family to take up residence on Saturday. Just looked at our kitchen wall thermometer and it's already 31.5 degrees, inside! We have all the windows open but can't open the kitchen door for a through draught, or Bonnie will escape.
Don't plan to do much this afternoon!
